We had driven through Greenwood before and noticed the proliferation of lovely period shops and buildings; this time we stopped for a closer look and were delighted with both the architecture and the friendly people we met on the streets and in the shops. One shopkeeper suggested a tour of the small museum which turned out to be fascinating. The smallest place in BC to be designated a city Greenwood was a booming mining centre of 7500 people that has now dwindled to less than 10 percent of that. Its mining history along with being one of the interior towns where Japanese Canadians were interred during WWII made the museum visit very interesting indeed. If you are driving through Greenwood do take the time to stop - it is well worth the time.

We have driven through this historic town many times in the past, without bothering to stop. However, it has been getting restored, with quaint shops, saloons, cafes and a museum. It is a great place to stop enroute for a coffee and a snack, but you will want to stay to wander the historic main street. It has a couple of very good cafe / bakery shops, which we tried, as well as a very good playground. We did not try the playground as our daughter is a teen, but it looks fun and interesting. An easy walk, even for those with mobility issues. We will make a point of stopping every time we go through - as it is being restored they are showing more of the historic aspects while keeping it interesting.
