Booked a weekend campsite at Plaisance park for the end of September; we ended up being lucky as it was a warm weekend with great weather.I cannot say enough good things about the park:1)Great location from Ottawa, about an hour's drive from downtown Ottawa including some traffic2)Friendly and helpful check-in staff3)Our campsite was located in the La Baie site 096 and it easily fit our two tents and accommodated our hammocks well as well as there were so good trees on the site. I would strongly recommend the sites that are right on the river in La Baie, esp, 094, 095, 096, 097 as they are very private, with a lot of brush and trees in between each site, water on one side and the road in front, with forest across the road. It was great to launch our canoe right from the site.4)This site was maybe a 2 minutes walk from a very clean, flush toilet bathroom area. 5)Lots of trails and activities in this park, there is a boardwalk area, and another trail with a suspended bridge. It's also great for bikes.6)Right when you get off the highway, there are gorgeous falls where there is also a nice trail. In our two day weekend, we didn't have enough time to do all the activities, it was wonderfully quiet and relaxed. Already planning to go back this year.
We decided to head out here on a beautiful summer day. What none of the other reviews mentions is that there are waterfalls about 1 km up the road; it's a quick hike up and down and $5 each for admission. There is lots of parking at the waterfalls, and a bit of history about the area as well. The national park is also nice; we really enjoyed the walk along the boardwalk. All together, we spent about two hours here, although if you wanted to hike further or bike or kayak, you could spend most of a day.
My wife, Anne, and I explore various cycle trails in and around Ottawa. We then advise the members of our cycling group, "The Wheels of Fortune", of the nature of the explored route in preparation for leading the group on the newly explored route the following Saturday. Monday's exploration was of the 17km cycle route starting at Plaisance through the park. We really enjoyed the route with its varied scenery, its rolling hills, and its well posted signs. We will enjoy leading our intrepid cyclists on this route Saturday next. A bonus was the ferry from Cumberland to get to the Quebec side of the river from our starting point in Kanata.
Very nice walking trail along the waters - ticket said name was "chutes de plaisance" - nice to visit on warm day.
We cycled on the trails through the park on our way from Plantagenet, ON to Papineauville, QC. The park was very quiet since it was mid-week and after Labour Day. The trails were well maintained and we enjoyed our cycle. The payment method for day use worked OK. Other than cycling through we can't say much about the park. It appeared to be, for the most part, closed.
We spent the day biking from one end of the park to the other, stopping for lunch at Patalou in Plaisance. There are lots of picnic tables and washrooms along the route, as well as lookout points to enjoy the view and tiny beaches along the river if you'd like to take a dip (although it looked pretty muddy). You could add a side trip to the falls and the daylily centre if you were camping for the weekend. Less than an hour from Ottawa and close to Montreal too, this little park is a lovely place to stop in the Outaouais.
Nous y retournerons l'an prochain
