Decided to stop and read the Visitor Information Board, easy to read, interesting information about the man-made canal and other history of the area. A small canal that made such a big difference to the people!!

Not too much to see. There is a small information display, and a view of the man made canal. We stopped on the way to Port Arthur and stretched our legs.

If you are heading to Port Arthur you will cross the bridge over his canal right in the town of Dunalley. Allegedly this is the only man-made shipping canal still in use in Australia, and runs several hundred metres between the Hobart side and the ocean side of the Tasman Peninsula, and avoids many kilometres of sea travel down Storm Bay and around the peninsula. There is a little visitors information display in the park beside the canal. If you happen to be there at the right time of day you may see a fishing boat or other taller vessel pass through while waiting for the bridge to close. For some it will be interesting, for others, it will be an annoying interruption to their journey.Well worth a 10 minute stop, and a great pie shop across the road.
