It is a bit off the beaten track but worth a visit. It is well set up with a visitor centre, viewing areas and picnic area. Normally I would find engineering things like this very boring. But I spent a good two hours in the visitors centre looking at a very interesting exhibition.

Warragamba dam is about an hour west of Sydney and provides a large proportion of Sydney's water supply. The dam itself is a marvel of engineering but for the visitor there are numerous picnic spots, viewing platforms and an excellent visitor's centre. The centre provides a great deal of information about the construction of the dam and the water it stores. There are a number of video displays and the kids can colour in pictures or dress up as farmers for photographs. We went on a Friday afternoon and avoided any school groups, having the place virtually to ourselves. I would think it gets pretty busy at weekends. Well worth a visit.

Worth a visit to look at some of the history of the dam and to appreciate its size and importance to the Sydney water

Warragamba Dam is the largest concrete dam in Australia, and has the largest catchment area in NSW (which stretches into the Blue Mountains).Located 65 km west of Sydney, and at least one hour drive from the Central Business District. There is a visitor centre, viewing platforms, toilets, picnic area, car parking and open spaces. This is an attraction for those interested in the water cycle and infrastructure. It's a bit off the beaten track.
