Sunset at the lake was fantastic. The lake gets busy with people exercising, dog walking etc. The lake is also good for rowing (apparently to a high standard too). I would recommend a trip out as its only a short drive from the CBD.

I loved the relaxing walks around Lake Wendouree. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the view and feed the birds or just read. Soothing relaxing and friendly walkers and visitors to the area. Nice places to have a meal or just a good cuppa. The Botanic Gardens so near with its wonderful Begonia Festival. Would love to return and see some 'boating activity'. A lovely spot to spend a week or two.

Lake Wendouree was the location of the rowing events in the 1956 Olympics. We walked around the lake after driving to Ballarat from Hall's Gap. It is about 4 miles (6Km) around, and as well as the Olympic Rings statue there are lots of birds to look out for. There is also a great cafe at the end of the lake next to the Botanic Gardens.

Absolutely magic, what more is there too say :) If you are visiting Ballarat then this is a must place to see. Having lunch by the lake made our visit one to remember.

What a beautiful place. Do not miss this. Make sure you plan your trip to the lake to coincide with a trip to the botanical gardens and also the tram museum. You can easily do all three in one day, and if the weather is nice I promise you will enjoy it. Highly recommended.

If you have the time when staying in Ballarat, do make the walk around the lake. Now it is in full bloom with plenty of water it is a stunning place to be for picnics, restaurants, walking and just taking it all in with the abundance of bird life that waddle beside you to welcome you to their domain. The swans are such a picture and take some stale bread for them or do leave something out of your sandwich. Memories I have when back in the 60's at boarding school at Clarendon PLC we often at weekends went walking around the lake (with a prefect of course) and that was stimulating for us. Oh they were the days. Go with a group, family or romantic couple or even solo.

Lake Wendouree and surrounds are picturesque and peaceful. There is a walking track around the lake for the energetic. Covered picnic shelters, a botanical garden with it's craft shop, a vintage tram to ride on, the Prisoners of War memorial wall and abundant lovely grassed areas and the ducks and geese all make for a lovely day out.

At just 6kms, most able bodied people can manage this flat walk, or cycle, or pram-push. Great playgrounds on the way, and a few cafes to try out as well.

Ballarat Botanical Gardens are a great place to visit all year round. Even on a cold wet day and we get lots of them (long winters) there is always some thing to see I find the gardens very peaceful and there is all ways a quiet place to reflect.the prime ministers walk is interesting seeing all our past prime ministers. great fishing in the lake opposite the gardens well stocked with trout.

Ballarat's "jewel in the crown" delights and entertains locals and visitors at any time of day or night. You'll always see people walking around the lake alone or with friends. The wildlife is spectacular with large families of ducks of many types, swans and other species wandering in and out of the water. It is truly a treasure, much loved for it's beauty, liveliness and calm. Small sailing vessels, windsurfers, small hire peddle boats and a steamer add to its attraction, especially at weekends. The additions of wetlands, islands and walkways adds to his appeal. A must visit whenever you come to Ballarat.

Lake wendouree is an amazing lake in the heart of ballarat. Being from ballarat I love the lake for so many reasons the 6km walking/running track around the lake is great to go for a walk and take it all in. There are lots of BBQ playgrounds and table areas to have a meal. Also the restaurants that sit on the lake are great as well. If your coming to ballarat lake wendouree is a must see
