I visited the Convent and Cathedral of San Pedro Claver and I found it to be a very good example of Colonial architecture. It has a luscious indoor garden that provides shade and a cooler temperature during the hot days. The second floor's open hallways were used as an art gallery with interesting exhibits. There were also adjacent rooms with Spanish antiquities and the room and study of the priest Pedro Claver who was known to be an advocate and caretaker of african slaves. Very interesting history.

Past the front ticket booth, you can find tour guides available at a reasonable rate. I had the good fortune to have William. The sad history of slavery in Cartagena was told. I hired him for a 4 hour private historic area tour the following day. Absolutely get a guide.m

CATHEDRAL DE SAN PEDRO CLAVER is actual a livid museum, you felt like the old century walking around

In addition to learning about San Pedro Claver and his work as the "slave to the slaves," we loved walking through this airy church facility and seeing the art from Haiti and the church art. The garden is lovely and the only time i've seen guacamayas on this trip too. Worth a visit.

Good choices like El Baron and others to have a beer, watch sight seeing passersby if not entertainment at night.

Very interesting. Worth a visit from numerous points of view: cultural, historical, and the fact that one gets out of the sun!

The alter of gold where one comes to pay respect and ask for healing. Their are a number of items encased in glass which show that their are miracles and God does answer ones prayers. It is very humbling to see.

Beautiful museum! Great artwork and great old architecture. Very interesting too for history buffs like myself. A must do while in Cartagena!

I attended a wedding here. Beautiful old cathedral and the priest was very warm. On a large sure with lots of action.

For a little bit of serenity, and maybe to catch a break from the heat, this church is worth a stop. It is a really old church with a beautiful facade. There was a service going on when we were there, so we sat in the back pews for a bit to take everything in. There are lots of cool little metal statues right outside of the church and several fruit vendors as well.

A very old church. Unfortunately during our visit the center of it was under renovation. The 12 stations are depicted around bot with the renovation we couldn't get close enough. One of the highlyof the old town.

I would recommend visiting this museum and church. The museum itself has a fairly large range of things. If the church is closed from the front, you can get in through the museum. San Pedro's remains can be seen at the front of the church on the altar.

Living in Charleston , as I do, I appreciate the beauty of each City's monuments. It is there; and it is free, and it is so fine. I don't see how you could come to Cartagena and not walk into this church. Don't fail to go upstairs for views that you will not get in most other similar places.

The nicest thing about the San pedro Claver is the green patio, a quiet little patch of jungle. But the cathedral and adjoining historic buildings are impressive. The story of the saint is interesting in view of slavery history. Pricy but worth it.

San Pedro Claver is a compelling figure, and this cathedral is lovely. The saint's remains are at the front of the church in a clear container, which is interesting but might be considered a bit macabre. The stained-glass is a highlight. Blow past the fake tour guides.
