I debated whether to go to the Fabergé museum and am so glad I did. The craftsmanship and creativity are beyond belief. If you look up the internet you might think meh, decorative ornaments, but to see them up close in person is something else. I got the audio guide for an extra 150rubles which I found very useful. Take note that you need to pay a 2000ru refundable depositI for the audio guide. I didn't get the catalogue book that documents every item in the museum (which is free but requires a refundable deposit) so can't comment on its usefulness. The staff here were by far the best I have experienced in St Petersburg. They all had helpful attitudes, from front desk to the gallery staff, and just wanted visitors to get the most out of their visit.Highly recommended. It didn't take me very long to go through, the museum has later hours so it is definitely something you can add to your day after the other museums have shut. The only thing is guided tours end at 5. I missed out but thought the audio guide was good enough.

I recommend going after 6 pm when you can go on a self-guided tour. Either rent an audio guide (which, by the way, had an absurd 2000 ruble deposit on the audio device) or they can loan you a guide book. It's a neat collection of Faberge items, but as I mentioned, not that many eggs. The KGB style security was fairly intimidating/annoying though.

I believe you have to book weeks in advance to visit the Faberge museum we could not see it in the two days we were there

This is just incredible. Way beyond words...the beauty not only of the fabulous pieces on exhibition but also the stunning palace in which they are housed. The highlight of our trip here.

The Faberge Museum experience was beautiful, informative and memorable. The stunning Faberge eggs are definitely worth seeing not just for the beauty but for their historic relevance and besides the rooms have much more than just the eggs. Beautiful jewelry and little objects for the royal family still contain the energy of the old times. The museum itself is very beautiful, large spacious halls all decorated in their own style are a pleasure to walk in. There is even a hall with paintings which are very beautifully lit, you will be surprised. We did go on tour (before 6PM you can only go as a part of the guided tour group). I think next time I would prefer to go on my own to fully enjoy the pieces and take my time.

A private visit was arranged and we had a tour in two groups of 12, the eggs on display are from the Forbes Collection that was sold for 200 million dollars , and has been added to by the person who owns the collection, who has a lease on the palace that it is in and he restored from his own funds into the amazing setting for the collection.Security is very strict and you do see some wonderful things never seen in the west , the gift shop is a wonder in its self and must be sen and allow lots of room to buy goodies.

We have visited many museums and art galleries throughout the world but the St Petersburg Faberge Museum took our breath away. The museum building, which was a palace in Tsarist times, has been restored to its former glory by a group of private investors. Many people associate the name "Faberge" with eggs but there are many, many more treasures nicely displayed in the glass cases. The treasures had been retrieved from all over the world. It was not possible to take photographs but the treasures will live on in our memory! The charming guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Tours are conducted in both Russian and English at separate times. It is advisable to book for the English tours. However, we just turned up at the door and were able to join the next tour. Highly recommended!

We found this place quite by accident while looking for a french pattisserie. We were priveledged to be shown through the museum by the manager who explained all details for us and was most courteous and presented us with a beautiful copy of the Faberge book which showed all the wonderful jewellery that had been made.

The Faberge pieces on display are wonderful and the palace setting is lovely - but the whole experience is spoiled by excessively zealous staff and very poor information in the displays. Go to see the Faberge and go if you want to experience what Russia was like in Soviet times!!

this place was such fun, not only because of the collection of Fabergé but also for the charming guide. It is set in a wonderful palace. The location is right on the Dontanka, just few steps off Nevsky Prospect. One can reserve tickets online - probably a good idea if wanting one of the tours in English. The museum is also open at night and one can just wander on ones own.

We could see incredible art work from Faberge. I think only in this place there is a complete expotion of this kind of objects.

When you see one Faberge egg, you admire its intricacy for a while and conclude it's impressive work. When there are so many on display, I found that it almost devalues each individual one in the collection rather than heighten your impression of the overall body of work. There's not much to do besides be impressed by the tiny little details but I found myself getting bored quite quickly and moving on.

Absolutely worth visiting! Just provided a tour of the place to my tourists and immediately took pride in the collection that represents the most significant example of our cultural heritage.

We were lucky to arrive just an hour before an English-language tour and got the last two places. Had been looking forward to this and was not disappointed. Tour guide was informative and happy to answer questions. Felt a bit intimidated by burly security guard following us round. Had plenty of time and space to see the eggs. Pity not to take photos but the guide book was fairly priced with pictures of most of the eggs. Lovely clean toilets and locker room.

On the recommendation of a friend, I recently visited the Faberge Museum. Now let's get the potential negatives out of the way first, if you want to go around the museum outside of a tour you have to start queuing at about 6pm. The queue tends to be long and slow moving, as there is only one person selling tickets. This means a long wait...but it is worth it.This recently renovated palace is an attraction in itself. Each room is exquisite and different. The items in the museum really recreate the lives of the Romanovs in all their (sometimes gaudy) splendour. The eggs are obviously a big attraction, but don't hurry to them. If you take your time the other visitors soon disperse and you will have them virtually to yourselves. I was really surprised that my friend and I spent a long time with the eggs with no other visitors. The thing is that although the eggs are amazing the other items from the time are equally impressive. If you go to St Petersburg, you must see this.
