A great location to go for a walk or try the nearby cafee-restaurant. Calm and serene lake feels like you are very far from noisy Athens, even though it is about 50 min drive from the centre. Avoid the restaurant during weekends as it gets very crowded.

An artificial lake approximately 45km from the city centre of Athens. It is from this place that Athenians get their provision for water. The lake Marathonas and the National Park of Schinias are two of the ten remaining wetlands of Attica, both of prominent importance due to the diversity of species accommodated. The lake is unique for a stroll. Find a place to sit and just watch the beauty of this serene spot. The color of the water changes depending on the temperature and weather conditions and this is magic. At the base of the dam, the workers built a replica of the Athenian Treasury Temple in Delphi. The plaque on this reads: To commemorate their victory at the battle of Marathon, the Athenians erected a treasury at Delphi. This building is a replica and commemorates a victory at Marathon in wrestling from nature its life giving water for the citizens of Athens.

The artificial lake is a nice view dueing a drive from N-Athens to Marathonas/Schinias beaches. It is embedded in a nice mountaneous area. As such, it's nice to pass to get to Attica's nicest beaches. Elae not much to do, as you cannot decend or even swim in it. There's a taverna at one of the dam's ends though with nice afternoon sun on the lake. Interestingly, the wall of the dam is made of marble (maybe the only one worldwide).If you visit gorgeous Schinias beach, it is a nice scenic drive.

Nowhere really to stop. Need to cross a narrow bridge to get to the other side. One way traffic only.

Breathtaking view of the lake and quaint restaurant. Prices were very reasonable. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this site.

Marathon Lake is artificial. It was created in 1931 to provide water to the city of Athens. Today its one of the secondary reservoirs of potable water for the metropolitan area of Athens. Although the area is noce and easy to walk, access is mostly restricted because of the water company's installations and for security reasons. Viewing the sunset from the balcony of a cafeteria in the area in a summer evening is nice.

Μια ευχάριστη βόλτα που μπορεί να συνδυαστεί με ένα καφε στην καφετέρια στην άκρη της μιας μεριάς του φράγματος (απαράδεκτα ακριβή) και ίσως και κάποιο φαγητό στον χωριό που είναι μετά το φράγμα, στο Καλέτζι. Αν περνάτε κάποια στιγμή, ρίξτε μια ματιά στο φράγμα. Σαν εικόνα είναι κάτι ιδιαίτερο και όμορφο. Κάποια στιγμή... αν περνάτε από την περιοχή, κάντε μία στάση και δείτε το.

ειναι μια τεχνιτη λιμνη που υδρευη την αθηνα και την ευρητερη περιοχη σε μια πολυ καλη τοποθεσια ισως το μεγαλητερο εργο του περασμενου αιωνα στην αττικη

Εαν ειστε τυχεροι θα δειτε να κολυμπουν κάτι τεραστιοι γουλιανοί, στην οχθη κοντα από τη μερα της καταπληκτικής καφετεριας!

Lac formé par un barrage sur lequel une route vous emmène vers Marathon. Vous pouvez et devez emprunter cette route qui couvre le barrage. Un poste d'observation y est prévu. Le lac semble immense et l'eau pure... au sein d'une chaîne de montagnes c'est un paysage à découvrir et à contempler.

Nous sommes allé à cet endroit Grâce à des amis qui vivent sur place et nous avons dîner au restaurant qui jouxte le lac. Une fois le soleil couché, le lac est éclairé et vous pourrez admirer les goélands.J'ai adoré !!!!

Główny zbiornik ujęcia wody pitnej,kiedyś nawet do Aten;)Głębokość nawet do 54 m.Obudowa tamy z białego marmuru,tego samego ,który służył do budowy Partenonu i innych budowli w Atenach.

На самом деле это не совсем озеро, в нашем традиционном понимании, это водохранилище, запасы пресной воды. Но, не смотря на столь банально-практическое предназначение, обыграно и обустроено все настолько продумано, что оставляет впечатление полноценного знакомства с достопримечательностью. Вид на плотину- просто завораживает! Когда видишь размеры каменного колодца, уходящего к подножию горы, осознаешь масштабы строительства, проникаешься уважением к тем, кто это задумал и воплотил. У меня были схожие ощущения при посещении Коринфского канала. Прекрасный вид открывается с веранды кафе, все обустроено очень мило, особенно мне понравился чудесный маленький бассейн с небесно-голубой водой, вид которой манит прохладой и завораживает в летний зной. Удобно и то, что Марафон находится не далеко от Афин, поездка туда не займет много времени, а удовольствие гарантировано! По возможности рекомендую посетить.
