st. mathias church

The church-is the last resting place of St.Mathias, the apostle who replaced Judas Iscariot, and the only apostle to be buried north of the Alps. It is a good walk from the centre of Trier but well worth the effort, it is a peaceful and unpretentious place of worship that although imposing in size has a simple and welcoming atmosphere.

it was truly moving and fascinting to see the tomb of one of the 12 Apostles and the only one to be found north of the Alps. A beautiful and memorable stop on a recent pilgrimage in Europe.

1148, Abbey church (pelgrimage church): baroque façade, rib vault, the Tomb of the Apostle, with a barefooted marble effigy of Matthias, crypt also contains two large sarcophagi inscripted with Latin names. St. Matthias Abbey Church overlooks a spacious plaza surrounded by attractive white buildings. The Romanesque church is plastered and painted white with orange accents. The Church has a "Westwork" at the end of the Westside, with a tower of blind arcades and a gallery inside. Two Roman towers in the East. The Romanesque nave has square piers and simple round arches without decoration, lit by small Windows. The church has been given the status of a basilica minor. As its exterior is graceful and thus promising, its interior was to me a let down.

Mooie kerk omringd door een kerkhof waar tijdens ons bezoek veel kaarsjes branden. In de kerk was er een repetitie bezig om Kerstmis te vieren. Mooie kripte, een bezoek meer dan waard.

mooie kerk langs de buitenzijde, grote binnenkoer eer je de kerk betreedt met een souvenierwinkel, binnen in de kerk wat donker, sarkofagen en een crypte te bezichtigen

В общем-то это монастырь, со своим кладбищем, садом, клуатром и прочими постройками. Церковь, естественно, его центральная часть. Я не очень люблю барокко - как-то всё это черезчур напыщеннно, на мой взгляд. Но эта церковь понравилась - действительно красиво.

Проезжали мимо, решили посмотреть - внутри симпатично, чисто и практически нет людей - не туристическое место

beeindruckender Vorhof und Kirchenraum, sehenswertes Chorgestuehl, Besuch besonders zu empfehlen, wenn es möglich ist, dem Gesang der Mönche zu lauschen, beim Verlassen der Kirche bitte die Fassade noch einmal betrachten.

Собор Св. Апостола Матфея в одноименном аббатстве с красивым барочным фасадом. Само аббатство очень древнее, существует с III века. Для меня явилось неожиданностью и впечатлило то, что оказывается в IV веке Св. Елена привезла сюда одну из величайших христианских святынь - мощи одного из 12 Апостолов - Матфея. Теперь они покоятся в этом соборе.
