A quite splendid selection of gadens, designed with different themes, in order that whatever the time of year, there will be areas of interest. Visiting in early September, the best of the roses were probably past, but foliage was glorious and the wild-flower meadows were among the best I've ever seen.I suggest that it is a day's outing as it really can take 3 or 4 hours to wnader through the whole garden, both the formal and the informal planting areas. The restaurant serves extremely good food, complete with a roaming peacock who, one senses, had his eye on any scraps. There were none at our table! And with entry to the gardens at 6.50 euro entry fee,a little over a fiver, this really is extremely good value.

We visited the gardens 2 years ago and were very impressed with the whole experience which was enjoyed again recently but this time we stopped for lunch. The restaurant was very busy but well run and the menu selection whilst fairly compact offered up to us without doubt the best salad we have ever had comprising a selection of variously prepared and cooked vegetables served cold, salad leaves and fruit all in a really fresh tasting dressing.....absolutely wonderful. We shall be back!

... such as I am. Tired and prepared to endure boredom for the enjoyment of my better half, I grudgingly admit to having enjoyed the different types of garden present, even as by early August many roses and other flowers were way past their prime despite the late, cool summer. Pleased and soothed by great views and positively weird combinations and varieties. Impressed.

This is the closest we can get to a National Trust type property, living in the Calais region. However, don't expect Sissinghurst. It is charming, in it's own way, and the surrounding villages are pretty. We have only tried the rhubarb tart decorated with flowers in the cafe which was delicious and unusual, it has inspired me to experiment. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit.

The gardens are large and made up of multiple areas including a rosé garden and large herbaceous beds. We visited in July - the roses were still out because of a late spring but the star attraction was a brilliant wildflower meadow - the best I have ever seen. The cafe is very good using produce from the garden in more imaginative ways than is common in most French restaurants.

If you like gardens, do take a detour to see this one - it is magnificent. Wonderful walks through well thought out plantings with so much to see!

Reading the positive reviews, we traveled about 3 hours in total in order to visit the gardens. We were hungry and decided to start in the tea room. After waiting a bit, we were seated at a dirty table which was hastily wiped clean and given two menus. The choices were meager and the prices fairly high. After 20 minutes we still had not been provided with place settings nor had our orders been taken. Still hungry, we decided to leave for the gardens. The 9 Euro entry fee seemed high. A visit to the Abbey itself was not included and would have been more. It was a beautiful day and the gardens were nice, but we've visited many public gardens that are as nice or nicer. A warm sunny day in a lovely garden is always nice, but these gardens were not special enough to merit a special trip.

....in fact more than just worth it. A visit here will richly repay your effort by providing you with a most beautiful array of interlinking gardens and water features that will hold enchanted the most avid of gardeners, highly delight casual garden lovers, and moreover relax you and provide a couple of hours or so of absolute escapism from the stresses and strains of everyday life. The Restaurant/Cafe also provides a contrast to the normal fare with lots of fresh salads, fruit and simple homemade extremely tasty fare, and at a most reasonable cost in pleasant environs. All in all, a really enjoyable visual and sensory experience that is highly commended.

We visited the gardens again this year, for the third year running. We were slightly later in visiting and the roses were all finishing which was a shame but nature happens!! I would recommend visiting second or third week in July if you want to see the roses at their best. We have also visited in May in 2011...different blooms and colours to see. The gardens are kept beautifully, they are planted with great care and the gardeners use no pesticides only ladybirds to control the Aphids and pests. We have always taken our two children with us and they also love looking at the flowers, butterflies and other flora and fauna which their eagle eyes spot. It is reasonable cost to enter and there is a nice shop selling natural products from the area at the beginning or end of your visit. Take a camera!!

The day was really hot which makes everything seem brilliant anyway but the gardens were exquisite! We never went into the Abbey as the tour never started in time for our party. The restaurant was so so expensive and we never ate there. It was about €6 for a bowl of soup. Well worth a visit if the weather is nice and you like to relax in the green landscape.

We visited this house and gardens several years ago and really enjoyed the experience. Decided to visit again - the garden only this time, and we were not disappointed. Maybe the French expect more from their gardens but we thought it was all very nice - the bonus of sunshine allowed as to sit and relax and enjoy the peace, listening to the birdsong ...... We could have sat there all day. Plenty of grasses, roses, poppies etc. If you like gardens, we would recommend a visit. We did not use the restaurant, but you could take a picnic in as there were places to sit and eat around the gardens. Entrance price E9.00.
