We were there on a Sunday so everything was closed in the old city. It was still interesting to get to know it.

What great views for life. travels along the lake gives different panoramic views of the lake. take the morning train as it takes almost 1/2 day the trip

I loved this city in Switzerland. The scenery there is breathtaking, you could walk by the lake and see the Mont Blanc from there. In xmas time they had a xmas market which was very nice, and you can take a bus to visit the Chillon Castle

This is a nice walk to the old town and it is quiet interesting as you are in the montains - the motorway is on the top of your head - very nicely done and also quiet scary if you are living here

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Take your time and wander the cobbled streets, watch and listen to the buskers, take a coffee al fresco. It is just so lovely and enjoyable.

We decided to walk up to the old part of Montreux from the lakeside - only about 10-15 mins. It's full of very quaint old painted buildings. No special attractions but it makes a nice break from the bustle of the more popular parts of the city. From there we walked the 40 minutes down the hill towards Chateau de Chillon where we had started the day.

Just wonderful! old streets and well refurbished buildings, charming boutiques and bistros! Areal joy!

The walk through the Old Town will take you about 1 hour max, it is not a big area, however very nice walk with a fantastic view from the church on the top of the hill oveviewing the city centre, the lake, the Alps...charming quiet narrow streets contracting with the busy city centre. And btw the hill is as steep as it looks like. :-)

At the recommendation of the tourism office, we took the funicular to the middle stop (make sure you press the button for that stop...we did not know this so went all the way to top...which was also fine and then caught same funicular back down to stop). It is then a short walk on a path (for some reason had lots of tiny lizards so we walked fast) and you then come into the old town near a church. We followed the route that the tourism office highlighted for us and there really was not much to see and not much there...at least from the route we took. Glad we didn't walk up the night before to find a place for dinner. Was not overly awed by the charm or architecture. It was a nice walk though and a different vantage point of Montreux, probably took about 30 minutes at most to walk down. Treated ourselves to a refreshing movenpick ice cream on the lake promenade once we reached down.

The Old Town area is not as popular with tourists as the lakeside promenade, probably because it sits along the side and at the top of a rather steep hill. If you have time, however, do venture up that way! The old buildings are full of charm, the narrow streets just invite you to get lost in the maze... An absolutely lovely walk!

If you want to loose weight, and to behold some spectacular views(provided it does not rain, there is no fog, a.s.o) there is your chance. If it rains, snows, foggy, misty or any other current weather conditions in Montreux you still have the workout................

If you are in good shape and you have spare time, it is worth a walk to the old time. The view is spectacular and the architecture is worth seeing. I have seen better. Sadly, there is no central town square to sit and enjoy a coffee or snack.

You can pick up a map from the tourist information office on the seafront at Montreux. You begin the walk from there walking uphill through narrow streets, taking you up the hillside to viewpoints across Montreux and the lake. Well worth the effort. I would recommend this.

We found this at the end of our holiday and loved the quiet streets. Visited the Musuem about Montreux and found reasonable places to eat/drink.

Just a few minutes walk up from busy, modern Montreux is the old town - nothing much there to see, but a little bit of a peaceful respite, and good views down!
