So worth a visit, tucked away in the Lincolnshire countryside this place is a little gem and there is so much more to it than parrots, although there are hundreds to look at and listen to. My Hubby took me on a surprise visit on 13 th March, after learning about the new arrivals, Tigers and baby tigers too, it was a beautiful sunny spring day with just a warm breeze, we couldn't have picked a better day. After paying the reasonable price of £7:95 we bought food to feed the Meerkats and some for the birds too. After entering and seeing that the Rainforest cafe and shop and toilets were all near the entrance/exit area we passed a lovely clean playground area for children and then came to the lovely lemurs all sat with their cute little faces skywards catching some warm sunshine, they did look comical and all the while there was a call of "hello Charlie" that stood out from the other chorus of hellos and whistles from the nearby Cockatoo enclosure, they are so funny talking and whistling to you to give them some peanuts. I loved the noise of all the different parrots and birds as we went round, it is quite unbelievable in places. We found the lovely new Tiger enclosure and to start with thought that there were no tigers out but went round to the other side and there all curled up in a corner were the three most adorable baby tigers, they looked like little stripy balls of fluff all curled up together, the sun was starting to come round onto the enclosure and Mum, Dhera soon appeared, then it was playtime, they were up and down, playing in the water, jumping on Mums back, rolling all over and playing with toys, it was just mesmerising to watch and to be honest I could have stayed there and watched them for the rest of the day but we dragged ourselves away. We went to feed the funny little meerkats in their lovely big Wild West themed enclosure, then went to see if the otters were out but they weren't so we decided to go for a walk around the secluded nature area and lake, it is lovely and quiet here apart from the odd passing vehicle and a very nice place to sit and have a picnic if you have bought food with you or just to sit and relax in the sun while you watch the different array of ducks, geese etc on the lake.On the way back from the lake we were watching chaffinches, blue tits and several other wild birds hopping about in some of the young trees that had been planted. The reindeer were lovely and soft to stroke when one wanted a bit of fuss as we went past. One of the most fun parts is going into the walk through aviary, it is so lovely being to get up so close and personal with the beautiful birds in there, a Rose ringed parakeet took a liking to my hubby and everytime it saw his camera it made the exact same noise that a camera shutter makes, they really are such intelligent and comical creatures. We went to the Rainforest cafe and had a very good quality coffee and hot chocolate at a very reasonable price, looking at the menu on the tables the prices for all food and drink is very reasonable and the food we saw coming out to other people looked very good indeed, there is a wall lined with tanks in the cafe with various things for you to see including some snakes, my only issue with this is that some tables are too close to the tanks and if they have people sitting at them you can't get to some tanks for a close up look, apart from that it is a very nice clean well run cafe with friendly,helpful staff. After another look round we could not resist going back to the tigers, the enclosure is very well done as you are not just looking through bars or mesh at the tigers, there are lovely large viewing windows so that you can get a really good look at those majestic Bengal Tigers, there is an information board outside the enclosure that tells you all about them and how endangered they are, as all the animals at the Parrot zoo are rescue animals in some way or another it makes it all the more special that the babies arrived, I can't wait to see if the Daddy tiger will be able to be seen at some point too. All in all this really is a fabulous little place, suitable for all ages, it is a clean, well run place with friendly and knowledgable staff, there is a lot of research work goes on too when you read their website, I do not hesitate in recommending a visit to anyone.

This was a very worthwhile trip to an excellent attraction, bolstered by the knowledge that The Parrot Zoo is also fulfilling a creditable purpose - restoring damaged and homeless birds & animals.We visited on a March day with a chilly breeze - not the conditions which immediately make one think of the tropics - but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The parrots were evidently well cared for, in aviaries which gave them plenty of space and an interesting environment. What's more, they were clearly interested in their human visitors as we were in them. I don't understand the reviewer who claimed the birds were cramped in unsuitable conditions - did they visit the same place?Yes, some birds - not the majority - were suffering from plucked feathers. Not too surprising when they are rehomed birds after all, and they were clearly in good spirits and well cared for. My wife has some mobility problems, and we greatly appreciated that the pathways were wide and level (and clean), and almost all of them were concreted.This is called The Parrot Zoo after all, but we were pleased to see the other birds and animals on display and the sense of variety this produced. In particular the adult tiger and cubs were a delight.The 'walk-in aviary' was a definite highlight - we have visited walk-through aviaries elsewhere, but the immediate interaction with the birds here was incredible. These birds clearly like people and have little hesitation in showing it.We greatly enjoyed our visit, intend to come again, and have no hesitation in recommending The Parrot Zoo to others.

would recommend it to anyone! A great service and gorgeous animals! Never have I felt so in touch with the wild life! A definite 5 stars all round from me!

The parrot zoo has grown so much in the recent years and it is brilliant to see the progress it has made and is still making! The staff offer brilliant service, with a smile on their face.. Always!! Overall it is a very clean and exciting place to visit, it offers excitement by the lemur enclosure to peacefulness and tranquility around the lake, I highly recommend a visit for all ages! Very excited to see what's in store.

I've known Steve for many years and hadn't seen him for a while so popped over today! What can I say...... It started off with parrots and the odd bunny but now he has built this amazing place with some of the most awesome animals...... If you have never been then you just have to...... Seriously a great day out with the friendliest staff, nothing is too much for them! And not to mention the new addition!!!!! The tigers

I have been coming to the parrot zoo for many years now and it never fails to impress. Every time me and my family come it creates new experiences that will last a life time and with the new edition of the tigers it adds a new flavor of excitement to an already incredible place. Food available at the zoo in their own 'rain forest cafe' my personal favorite is the Big Macaw burger its great!! All staff are very polite and friendly and i would definitely recommend a visit!

This place is a real gem in the middle of Lincolnshire. Great for a family day out, it was good before but now with the latest addition of a female tiger & her three cubs its a must see. The team here are great & are. continuously working & making improvements to the animal shelters. The cafe is very good too.

My friends and I visited on a sunny afternoon,and there were very few other visitors. This is a wonderful place to visit and we really enjoyed our time there. We bought our peanuts and millet and had a lovely time feeding the ones who wanted peanuts and talking to the birds- mainly"hello" with a ringtone and a "hello Charlie"!The walk in aviary was wonderful and we were instantly beset by all kinds of beautiful birds who perched on every available limb! Fun,fun,fun!The cherry on the cake was looking in the new tiger enclosure, but we could see nothing and thought it was empty. The lady in the cafe told us to go and have another look ,which we did and we were lucky enough to find Steve Nichols there. He spent ages talking to us and called the beautiful tiger over to the window.Here is a man with a real passion for his animals and as true animal lovers ourselves it was lovely to know how well cared for the animals here are.

We'd go again but next time when the UK has had some dry weather. Some of the paths were filthy and boggy and my husband and myself came away with filthy boots but our poor toddler son ended up beyond filthy and wet which was such a shame and it made us hurry our visit somewhat. We were only there for an hour which for the price it made it a little over priced again. But we'd come again because we like to hope that our money is going to a much needed cause. We have a scarlet macaw and a green winged macaw so we have some understanding of how parrots should live and we were more than happy with how they were kept. We find quite a lot of the reviews complaining are unfair and well ignorant. We thought it was lovely that they had lots of 'friends'. These birds are flock birds and should more than cope with lots of other birds around. Sure it'll get mucky in there. Owning two of them you know how much mess they produce. Multiply that many times and you're going to get mess. We loved feeding them and chatting to them and aside from them needing to concrete all their paths...or sort the mud out somehow we enjoyed our visit. We especially loved the walk in enclosure. That was a surprise. So don't let the bad reviews put you off. It's not that bad. Most of these are rescue birds and thank goodness they have a home to go to.

I sadly found this trip more than a little disturbing, for a sanctuary that specialises in giving parrots a safe healthy home for life i found the Parrot zoo at friskney failed miserably . Im aware that some of the birds have come from poor backgrounds and fully expected to see some plucked birds , however i was not expecting to see such large scale overcrowding particularly of the African greys , cockatoos and macaws they were left with little to no enrichment and little shelter from the elements . Our family took bags of fruit to give to the birds however we were not allowed we could only feed what we bought there either millet or monkey nuts the later being very poor food for parrots potentialy harbouring mould spores that are deadly to parrots and cancer causing aflatoxins. The aviarys in general were dirty and barren and i saw more than a few birds that looked as if they required veterinary treatment , i tried to bring this to the attention of the staff only to be told this is normal behaviour for parrots in aviarys , i personaly keep 4 parrots and i am well aware of what a sick bird looks like, condidering we were amongst the first to arrive i would of imagined the keepers would of cleaned and done all the checks before the public arrived . I was also concerned at the species kept together in some cases for instance a little sennegal parrot being bullied away from the food by a eclectus parrot a species much larger . After doing a little research it apoears that the parrot zoo meets the requirments for overcrowding however in this day and age these requirments are woefull . In my opinion these parrots need help at the very least some basic shelter from the weather and some form of enrichment to give there lives purpose , parrots are considered on the same cognotive level as apes im pretty sure if apes were being kept like this there would be outcry , as a nation that supposedly loves animals we should be ashamed of the parrot zoo.

Little On The Quiet Side Ok If You Dont Like The Hustle And Bustle Of Bigger Places Very Well Set Out Good Eating Area Some Great Birds Could Do With More To Attract More People

It is a sad fact that so many of todays society sees pets as a throw away item.Pet shops selling meerkats to folks with no garden or clue as to the animals needs.The same selling parrots with the attitude that if you can afford it then good luck to you!Then reallity bites, quite literally some times. Your small furry bundle of fun starts to eat your home from the ground up. It smells and doesn't conform when YOU want to hold / cuddle it.Your parrot makes more noise and mess than all the neibourhood kids put together. You can't find a suitable place to put it when you decide you want a holiday.... These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to owning such pets.Thankfully there are some people out there who are prepared to take care of these amazing creatures.This is one such family who's passion and humility is to be applauded.Yes there may be animals that appear less than healthy and some of the breeds are numarus in number, but they are cared for and long term prospects for the individual are far brighter than being passed from owner to owner.More visits, more support. More support, more money. More money better facilities and more room and the cyce continues.Appologies for spelling

If you know the tiniest bit on birds you'll notice how overcrowded, dirty & in for profit this place is.Do not support them, it's a sad sight

i went along to view the facilities for potentially sending my african grey parrot for sanctuary, however what i saw didnt please me much,the greys were in an enclosure fairly exposed to all the elements which worries me as some of them were not very well feathered,obviously i would assume these were once someones pets that had also been sent for sanctuary,there were only perches for them to sit on and not much else(no trees,ropes,toys)nor could any food be seen and all seemed very hungry(my parrot does not clamour on the bars of her cage for peanuts)!! they have 1 Mandrill monkey a very lonely soul he is too,(they naturally live in groups),why they have it i don't know,but i'm sure he would be better off at a 'monkey sanctuary'they also have other animals ,meerkats, cotimundies, lemurs. marmosets. emu , reptiles,one of which could also do with a larger enclosure,(a boa constrictor) the others i suppose are fairly ok with there living conditions but if its a parrot zoo why they need these other creatures is beyond me.i didn't honestly expect to see anything other than parrots of all shapes and sizes and would have been quite content at that,if they concentrated on just the birds and sent the other animals to other sanctuaries, then the conditions could be better than they are for the parrots,after all it is supposed to be A PARROT ZOO.... i left feeling rather disheartened and dissappointed. :(

This place is doing an amazing job. It's reasonable prized and the animals are well looked after. Went into the walk about Aviary and was instantly covered in Parrots. we got to feed them and they were quite happy to interact with us for a good couple of hours. They have good cover and can easily stay away from the public if they don't want to be disturbed.
