Sorry about the long title. Got carried away and started commenting. 4 walking trails, different skill levels, Lots to do, and nothing to do if you want! We plan on spending Thanksgiving week there and just 'chill'. Driving to Anderson for Thanksgiving Dinner. First time in 44years I have not had to cook a Turkey and all the trimmings! can't wait.

Stayed in #19 for 4 days. Very nice compared to the Florida state cabin I stayed in 10 years ago. It could stand a "spring cleaning" but it's glamping, not a 5 star hotel. Certainly exceeded my expectations. Would stay closer to the boat ramp next time so the private dock is a little easier to access. Pretty steep getting down the hill to the dock and view wasn't the greatest by being so high up in the trees. Wouldn't stop me from renting if only choice thought.

Enjoyed shelter places to picnic and enjoy view of lake. Very busy place with cabins booked months in advance.

During the week of August 2nd, we stayed in a cottage. If you're planning to do that, bring a Swiffer mop, duster, cleaning wipes, etc. because you will be spending half a day just cleaning up before you "move in". I went through the GIANT box of Swiffer pads (for the Swiffer mop that has a spray nozzle) and the floor was STILL filthy. The screened in porch (big holes in the screens) has a deck type floor and we saw roaches climbing out of the spaces between the boards. Sitting and rocking on this porch with a can of Raid was a necessity. I found roaches inside the cottage as well. My son found mold above the bathroom door in his cottage. I know that the Park has someone come in to try and "clean" after a guest leaves, but the cottage was not very clean. It is obvious that the Park does little if any maintenance to the cottages but they charge a lot of money to rent them. This will be our last stay there. On the plus side, the cottages are on a lake and each cottage has its own dock. Personally, I'd rather start my vacation at a place that's move in ready. I have enough work to do at home.

For those of you that have played RTJ Golf, this is so much better and twice as enjoyable. The golf course is scenic and uncrowded. It demands that you hit all of the clubs in your bag but is not overly difficult like RTJ. I can promise you that you will find the back nine to be among the prettiest nine holes you have ever played. None of the 18 holes run parallel to one another and many of them are bordered by Lake Russell which is pristine and quiet. The staff are regular folks and will go out of their way to be helpful. The accommodations, although inexpensive, are just perfect for a golf weekend. The cabins have central heat/air, four double beds, two showers, and a fully outfitted kitchen. There is a dock as well for the fisherman. Bring food, dishwashing detergent, paper towels, and automatic dishwasher packets as they are not included. Stores are not close, but that is part of the allure. My friends and I go every year and never pay over 200.00 for two days of golf and accommodations.

We have an annual golf outing here and stay in the cottages. They are very comfortable and well equipped. But the real star is the golf course which is first rate for a public course. Most holes skirt the lake, the greens are in terrific shape. And the course layout is excellent. I always enjoy coming here.

Stayed in one of the cottages by the lake during a friend's wedding weekend at the park. The cottage was clean and comfortable. It had a private dock, fireplace, outdoor firepit, charcoal grill, good showers, furnished kitchen, flatscreen cable TV and wi-fi. The only thing missing was a hot tub.

WE Took our RV to Richard B Russell State Park for 5 days and met friends who stayed in the Cabins near the campground.. The State Park is beautiful and the Lake that surrounds the area is amazingly beautiful.. Not only that, it has one of the most amazing Golf Courses in the State of Ga. There were many campers who brought up their boats and put them in to the lake for fishing and fun.. The city of Elberton is not that exciting but it does have a WalMart and an Ingles and a BiLow in the town.. Along with a few fast food resturants.. Not a lot to do in the town itself.. But the people are extremely freindly..

I remember just like it was yesterday and I was a young high schooler and loved to live it up in the hot sun and have great fun every fourth of July at Richard B. Russell State Park! The grilling was great and the water and the people was spectaculer and I hope to go in 2014. I walked around the beach in my bathing suit and the music from cars and radios was blasting and the chattering of voices was so exciting! The water tickled my feet and everyone was like family and we all got along so very well. The food was excellent and there were the best grillers around and at times others ate with other families and we dranked wine coolers and or beer. I miss those good old times and I miss the last dance when we all gathered to do the hustle before going home!

We have been going to Lake Russ for 7 years. Our boys love to come here. It has become our family tradition to vacation here during the summer. It is very peaceful and beautiful at the lake. The cottage are great. It has all the comfort of home. LCD TV, WIFI, CABLE. Each cottage has its own dock. You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful country to camp in. The facilities are well kept; comfort station is clean, park is clean, boat ramp and docks are in good shape. The only issue we had is backing into our site due to the narrow road in the campground. Unfortunately there are no full hook ups but the park has a well appointed dump station. If you are looking for a out of the way spot with beautiful views, this is the place. Make sure to bring your boat for the lake. Great fishing.

We camped 3 days at the campground with our 2 year old. We all absolutely loved it!!! The fishing was great and the kid friendly beach was just what we needed. Everyone was SO nice. We took the blackwater hiking trail and it was perfect with a kid in a backpack to get the heart rate going. I would plan bug prevention. My husband got some pretty itchy chigger bites, but it is camping and goes with the territory. It was our favorite spot so far!

We camped at site 26 and absolutely loved it! If you like to relax with nature around you, this is a perfect campground. They have a golf course that we did not utilize, but my husband has played the course and says that it is a challenging course with beautiful views. Can't wait to go back!

This a superb golf course nestled into the Georgia park system.. The front nine has some beautiful holes with sculpted greens .. the back 9 wraps around Lake Russell with great beauty and reflects the quality of the course designer -- if you're a golfer, don't miss it.
