We went thinking we would rent kayaks and get a back haul up to the dam and float down. That didn't work out (although it would have been great, look for that option in 2015.)What we did do is rent a small boat with motor and took the whole day to explore the 15 miles of river between Lee's Ferry and Glen Canyon Dam. It was a great value for two people and would have been even better for two couples. Pack a picnic and enjoy yourselves instead of being packed on to some inflatable raft with 40 others in Page. This was teh best way to see the river and enjoy the canyon!

Would use this company again! The paddleboards were easy to inflate and deflate and in great condition. If you find yourself hungry in Marble Canyon/after paddleboarding, I suggest going across the street from Kayak the Colorado to try Joe's cooking. We stopped by on our way out of the North Rim and absolutely enjoyed the food! So fresh and so delicious! Thanks Joe and Jenna!

If you're traveling out West, do yourself a favor and spend a night camping in Glen Canyon. My wife and I did so as a backup plan for hiking permits that didn't work out, and boy are we glad we had to go with plan B. We rented the 16-foot motorboat from Joe Hanley at Kayak the Colorado, plus a truck to haul it to the launch; it came out about $240 for 24 hours. Some logistical points: the river is too vast to float down in a kayak, you'll be glad to have the speed and ease of a motor on your side; also Joe welcomed us to bring along our furry friend, when other back haul services prohibit animals. The nicest guy in Arizona was flexible with our dynamic travel schedule, greeted us with a smile, clearly explained the rules of the river and the surprisingly simple instructions for operating the boat (I hadn't launched/driven a boat since I was a kid, and this was a piece of cake), and we were on our way. I won't ruin the surprise for you; let's just say after a romantic camp in the bottom of the canyon and the sunrise boat ride up to the dam and back, we were all but ready to yawn at the remainder of a spectacular trip. Better than the Colorado Rockies. Better than Monument Valley. Better than the Grand Canyon. Thank you, Joe, for facilitating the second greatest day of my life.
