Final stop on the drive down through the park. the have bathrooms and a tacky gift shop. When we went the water fountain was out so we had to buy water from them....? There is an old restaurant that was destroyed many years ago that has not been fixed yet. Not a whole lot to see here.

This seems to be a forgotten part of the Everglades, but is in a prime location along the Gulf. The restaurant has not been repaired since 2005's Hurricane Wilma, although there is a small cafe. There were no trails or much interpretive information. The whole place seemed to be in need of some tender loving care.

This place is at the bottom of the Everglades. We saw 2 very large saltwater crocodiles!!! I also got some really nice pictures of nesting Ospreys!!!! Very pretty spot!

We were very pleased to have made the journey to Flamingo. We hoped to see manatees and were not disappointed. Three were relaxing at the marina. We also caught a very interesting and entertaining manatee talk from one of the rangers. The regular crocodile was in and the nesting osprey obliged with numerous fly pasts, at very close quarters. It is a great place for a picnic, or an ice cream, sitting on a bench enjoying the lovely views across the water. We noticed a cafe but did not use it.You can take a ninety minute boat ride, with interesting commentary, in Florida Bay. At almost $100 for three people, we thought is was a bit expensive. However, we were joined by a pod of some dozen dolphins, including a mother and baby, that did their thing for us just ahead of the boat. As a previous reviewer reported, osprey everywhere. They seemed to be nesting on top of every navigational marker post in the bay.We would have liked to take out a kayak, but ran out of time.

Found this a little isolated. The mosquitoes will carry you off. Can't walk after dark. Beware of leaving your animal outside. The snack bar has okay burgers. No other facilities unless you make the 45 mile drive to Homestead. Watch out for snakes and gators near the water. There are excellent boating opportunities here if you hire a guide or bring a boat. There is a store with a few basic grocery items. Premade sandwiches are available to fishermen. Also of interest is a small museum. A great day trip.

We recently visited Everglades National Park and drove the 38 miles from the entrance to the Flamingo Visitor Center, making many stops along the way. The Flamingo section of the park is the southernmost point on the park road.There are several ospreys nesting in the area, which made it easy to spot some. We were lucky (or unlucky) enough to watch an osprey killing a crow on the ground - in front of an audience of excited onlookers. In addition to the ospreys we were able to see a crocodile (which was located behind the marina) . We also saw a good amount of sea birds (gulls, skimmers and pelicans) as well as a lot of the other great birds (herons, ibises, cranes) seen in the area out over Florida Bay. There is a lot to see around Flamingo. It is worth the trip.The following day we returned at sunset to kayak in Florida Bay and had a great time. However, there were a ton of mosquitos biting at night. Bring some bug spray!!The Visitor Center, Marina and Restaurant all seemed to be a little outdated, but we were not visiting for the amenities. .

We had intended to take an airboat ride, but were advised by some folks that we met that the ride at Flamingo would be a much better experience for what we wanted. We took the Back Country tour and learned a lot about the flora and fauna. We enjoyed it very much.

This may be the end of the road for the East to West road in the Everglades, but the view of the Gulf of Mexico was average. The Spanish Moss on the trees was pretty though. It would be best to have a boat to visit Flamingo to get the best value from it.

Nice campsites after a long car ride. Muddy beach. Trailhead for coastal prairie trail is located beyond campground, so it is quite a distance to walk to from parking area. Picnic area was OK.

We camped in a tent in loop A Flamingo. It was sunny, warm, late January, and the mosquitos only bothered us on one trail through the Mangroves. The marina provided most of our needs, but if you are camping make sure you shop for supplies before you enter the park. There is a Walmart in Homestead. Manatees appeared in the Marina dock area close enough to reach out and pet, but don't. Osprey nested on light poles and kept watch over the few tourists who wandered about. An alligator swam on the river side and a croc smiled from the inlet side of the dam. So much wildlife in a small place. We took the Bay tour on a small tour boat, people said the river tour was equally good. We sw the black fin of a shark, Osprey, and cormorants. Dolphins were often sighted but not by us. Of course we couldn't complain since we had witnessed "mud rings" made by three dolphins in five places along the shore from the visitor center just that morning.Echo Pond, a quick walk from our tent, provided a lesson in recognizing a heron, from an ibis, from egrets, and white pelicans. The tri-color and blue heron were easy.The park was not as scenic as the western national parks but the bio-diversity was amazing.

I dragged my wife here on her summer vacation. She still has not forgiven me. I don't blame her. OMG where did all these mosquitos come from?! I've been in Florida for 30 years now and have never seen so many angry insects. Just from getting out and in the car one time.. We were battling mosquitos all the way to Key West. Now I know why the Skunk Ape has all that hair. Next years vacation will be tropical.. Not swamp. It's a beautiful drive but if you go, please check at the ranger station for a mosquito update. It could save lives.

Before we visit south park everglades we visit many places in north everglades. South everglades after visitor center has an Anthinga trial very nice place to watch - bird,aligators,turtle etc. Next we drove 40 miles to Flamingo village we order boat tour inside everglades / $32 per p / expect to see lot of aligators,birds etc., only what we could see lot of trees and water,water and water - not worth money. Forget to see any Flamino birds in Flamingo village.!! Northside offers everything what you could see in south and much more. To travelers i will recomend visit north everglades.

Flamingo is a camping, boating, nature watching area on the west coast side of the everglades. You enter through the Coe Visiter Center entrance, and drive past royal palm lake, and all the other ecosystem areas. There are numerous osprey nests and hawk nests throughout the Flamingo area. There also are crocodiles in the waters at Flamingo. This is a welcome change from the typical alligators that you see everywhere else in south florida. Behind the visitor center at Flamingo, in the middle of the water, there is a sand bar where white pelicans, among other birds, like to rest. On many evenings, the flock of pelicans will take off, making a beautiful spectacle worthy of a nature photo.

Visited the Everglades National Park and were very impressed with the Anhinga Trial to view the birds, turtles and alligators. Especially the alligators. We drove down to Flamingo which was almost 40 miles away. Not worth the ride if you do not walk the trails or camp.

We drove all the way to Flamingo to see the edge of the Everglades. It was an easy drive, although kind of long. You can rent canoes here and take a few boat tours, and there is also a chance to see manatees and crocodiles. There is a restaurant which is decent, with fair prices considering they're the only option around. My friend had the alligator tail ($16) and it was good. Almost everything is fried however, so if you want healthy options, pack a lunch! All in all if you have time, it's worth a visit. If not, you're not missing out on too much.
