It was really neat to see all of the old equipment and the stories behind them. It was really fun to walk through the history there and be able to touch it.

My husband liked it but not my thing really. Great for war buffs and there is a historic cemetery near by too.

A simple but well done museum site. Very worthwhile to visit, especially if you can time it when they are having a re-enactment weekend. The soldiers actually set up an active 1800's campsite right there on the property and there is much to learn. Often times, they bring a civil war era cannon and shoot it off - quite a thrill. Not a bad place to stop by for an educational picnic lunch break.

Teens played in the ice cold clear rivulet running through the property, they had museum burn-out. Oh what they missed! I also almost zipped by trying to make up some time going south, but so glad I said "Maybe I'll take a photo". Ha! The docent turns out to BE the museum himself. He had myself and two tourists completely enthralled, so much so, after the other couple left, they returned about 20 minutes later with really serious camera equipment. Of course, the sole reason for the museum is the Modoc War, and thus it helped me much to visit here first and then Lava Beds second. Finally, Captain Jack is more than a name to me and his stronghold at Lava Beds made a whole lot more sense to me this year. Buy the $15 Oregon Public Broadcasting DVD "The Modoc War" at the Museum if you really must bypass this gem... Kevin has cameo roles .. but how much more fun to talk in person and ask questions. I love it when docents know their stuff in depth !!

The Museum building is located where Ft. Klamath used to be. Nothing, other than 5 Native Indians graves, and small log cabin are left on the grounds. Inside the museum, you can learn about the Modoc War and view few authentic civil and military memorabilia. If you are in a hurry - skip this place. If you have an hour - go and visit.

Heidi at the Aspen Inn Motel recommended my sister and I check out this museum if we had time after hiking around Crater Lake. We're sure glad we did! Kevin Fields, historian, gave us a fascinating look back at Ft. Klamath which was built to protect settlers from Native Americans. Learned a lot from this one room museum about the fort, the Modoc Indian wars and Captain Jack. The museum sits on the grounds of the original fort, none of which is standing. Perhaps one day it will be excavated?

Excellent displays for historical items. The gentleman working that day was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Fort and his explanations of events were great...tinged with humor.

This is a really interesting spot, almost in the middle of nowhere. What a great day trip from Medford or Klamath Falls! We stopped here, went to the fish hatchery, had an ice cream at the little store...it is a great spot to easily teach the kiddo some history!
