This place is fascinating. It is a nature's wonder seeing a beautiful place like this. Refreshing and energizing. Very nice to all nature lovers.

After emerging from the valley out of Muir Woods, this well maintained cliff overlook provides stunning views of the Pacific and the shoreline. Easy to spend a half-hour there simply gazing.

We 'discovered' this place one day by accident - we couldn't get parking in the Muir Beach lot so we drove up the mountain and decided to check out the overlook. Unbelievable is the best way to describe the views. Sweeping vistas of the ocean and a great place to have a picnic lunch. We've even been there twice when weddings were taking place! If you're on your way to Stinson beach you must stop here. Even if it's just take a few pictures it's a place you won't soon forget!

We kind of stumbled upon this area by accident after visiting Muir Woods. It's a nice little beach area with a beautiful overlook where you can see out across the ocean or look down upon the beach. Great photo op's in the area.

We arrived on a beautiful day in February. The scenery was spectacular. We hiked Owl trail down to the shore & again spectacular scenery. Note: take water! Would definitely come to this spot again.

This was an amazing find, both remote and peaceful but with spectacular and picturesque vistas. We wanted to go to Muir Woods but this weekend it is packed with many visitors and a parking space is too far away for us to think about walking back to the Woods. We carry on driving on winding Route 1 till my companion finds a sign on the left of the road about 3 miles from the Woods. We head up a slight grade and find an almost empty Muir Beach Overlook which is also part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.We see ample parking spaces for about 20 or so cars but there are only 5 or 6 cars parked at any one time. There are several picnic tables and we sit down to relax, eat a bite and take in the vistas. The Overlook was used as a lookout point for soldiers during WWII to detect enemy ships in the Pacific Ocean that might head towards California after American ships were attacked at Pearl Harbor. We see 3 relics of the so-called "gopher holes" which are semi-circular stone structures that peek above ground and continue into the ground where there are stone platforms that the soldiers nestled in to lookout to sea.To get a better look at our surroundings we walk down some steps to get to the wooden walkway with hand rails on either side. We see a huge basalt stone outcropping on our left; we also see San Francisco in the distance to our far left. This day the skies are a clear blue and we can see clearly to the horizon. Several pelicans fly above us. The magnificent Pacific Ocean is beautiful and sparkling before us. Below we can see its waters circle some small stone outcroppings near Muir Beach. On our far right, we see the coastal town of Bolinas which juts out into the Ocean. When we head back to the car park we see Mount Tamalpais and its observatory looks tiny in the distance. We linger for about two hours to soak in the atmosphere and then we are ready to carry on with the rest of our journey happy with the thought that we found a special place

If you want to have an easy walk that would allow you to look up and down the Pacific coast to and from San Francisco this is the perfect place for pics.

Highly recommend visiting this place as the views here are awesome. I could sit here all day just staring out into the ocean.

We stopped here after leaving Muir woods. The view was amazing. Breathtaking in a word. Must see! There are some markers from war time and some bunker type areas up there. We didn't have a guide, just stopped for the view.

We stopped at Muir Beach Overlook to get some nice views. We were not disappointed. We walked down the trail out to the end and had magnificent views of the California coast both North and south. We got a little bit of history as well when we seen the several U.S. Military gun bunkers from WW II. There is a little bit of history on the plaques which we read took our pictures and used the restrooms. Californians should be proud of their beautiful coastline. There are some stairs and some ramps.
