Helwig is a fairly new winery in Amador County and it has quickly become our favorite. The wines are all quite good. I'd buy just about all of them. The staff we've spoken with have always been friendly and informative. And the view from this winery is amazing. Its the perfect place to have a bottle of wine and lunch on their patio while enjoying an amazing view.

A must stop on the winery tour when in the foothills. Wide variety of reds and whites. Petite Syrah is terrific. The setting and views are breath taking. Service is fantastic. Seth, manager is very knowledgeable and helpful.

The setting of this winery is so pretty! Even if you aren't a wine-fan (which is hard to imagine) you should go here to enjoy the setting. They have outdoor venues during the fall, concerts with option to purchase a nice BBQ dinner. The people who work at this winery are very professional, fun and friendly. All their red wines were excellent.

Had never visited any of the foothills wineries. At first put off by the $5 tasting fee (pretty standard now days I found out later) I fell in love with the Barbera. Wprices are reasonable for the quality of the wines. Would go back for more if I get the opportunity.

Helwig has some really great wine. They have a very nice tasting room that accommodates a lot of visitors. And they have very knowledgeable staff. However, these three rather good items don't meld together perfectly. Our experience there felt a little corporate as opposed to wineries like Dillian that feel friendly and homey. Don't get us wrong, Helwig is a great winery, with great wine and well worth the visit. It's just a little more upscale than some of the cosier wineries in the area.

We're wine club members here. Joined last year because we really liked what we tasted then. The venue is amazing, new with killer views. The amphitheater would be great to see one of the concerts that they have during the summer months. The staff is generally very nice. The tasting room is always busy. They've getting close to releasing wines using their own estate grown grapes. We really hope that they step it up a half notch or so as some of the wines we've tasted lately weren't really all that great. They're new, they'll get better. At this point, no longer one of our favorites in the area.

We had been in Lodi and Clarksburg, CA for three days visiting wineries and tasting wines. We were en route to Lake Tahoe for a destination wedding. When staff at two different Lodi wineries learned of our destination, they recommended we stop in Amador County, and specifically recommended Helwig Wineries. We had never heard of Amador County or California's "Shenandoah Valley" wine area. Someone described it as the "next Napa". It just may be! There were many wineries there, but we stopped only at Helwig. Their tasting room is in a hilltop in the middle of their vineyards and absolutely beautiful. Their wines that we tasted were very nice. We purchased a bottle of 2013 Viognier and one of 1012 Barbera to take with us to Lake Tahoe. The wine specialist hosting the tasting was excellent. We'll certainly go back again if we are in the area.

mmmm....another iced wine that I really enjoyed. While the wines were really very good, the view was absolutely beautiful. Looking down on rows of vines, birds soaring overhead on the warm air currents, the breeze cooling you while the sun keeps you on just this side of warm. A delightful place to visit.

We had a wonderful visit to Helwig Winery. They are a new winery; still young and growing. We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour of the winery and caves with Cory. Tour arranged through Foxes Inn in Sutter Creek as the winery owners own the B & B as well...a perk to staying. Jack was very knowledgeable about their wines and they have a multitude of wines from single grape varieties to blended varieties. Their “Everyday Red” is outstanding. Except for one….we really could say we disliked a any of their wines and we tried over 10 varieties. We enjoyed a picnic lunch prepared by the Foxes Inn for us and soaked up the views. Great stop!

Stopped by at Helwig based on recommendation from staff at Andis, more for the architecture than the wine. Went on a Friday afternoon (nice because no crowds) I liked the wines and they look like they have some great events in the patio area and amphitheater.

I have been tasting in the area for about 10 years now. I visited Helwig for the first time yesterday and it was some of the worst wine I have ever tasted. I did enjoy listening to the used car salesman/tasting room staff describe there wines though. Most of them are blends which is typically thought of as a copout for winemakers as you can blend out any errors you have made. With a smile on there faces they were describing blends with 6 or 7different varietals as if it were a good thing. Absolutely hilarious. There concert venue looked interesting and the view was great. Looks like someone is trying to copy what Mountain Winery is doing. Crappy wine with cool events. Lets see if they can pull it off.

I stopped by the Helwig winery for the popular Big Crush weekend. I went into their attractive tasting room with nice views of the area but was told to go outside to a special Big Crush reception area. I went as directed another 100 feet and was directed to a separate area outside and several hundred feet below the tasting room on a circuitous path requiring a healthy climb to get back up to the parking area. Every other Big Crush winery I visited accomodated Big Crush participants in their main tasting rooms Not forcing them to walk outside and down some distance to a separate rather distant area. A woman in her 40s with her elderly mother were given the same instructions I received and we all refused returning to our cars to visit more cooperative and accomodating wineries. The attractive main tasting room was almost empty and could have easily handled our tasting experience.

Great tasting room! Awesome vistas! A wine cave not to be missed. A great selection of really tasty wine. Concerts throughout the summer and a great place to have a party or a wedding. One was being set up the day we visited and was and unbelievable venue with a outdoor chapel and covered dining area. The Helwig's have done a phenominal job creating this jewel in Amador County.

Went to the winery for Mother's Day brunch. Great food, super good bubbly! Beautiful venue for a relaxing day. We'll go back!
