I stayed 4 nights in Ashford and almost did not stop at this place because it looked too tiny to hold anything. I forget sometimes about that ole' saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover". It was really late as I was going by and thought oh what the heck I had not found anything art wise on this 8 day trip to WA state. Oh my, it houses quite a bit for such a small size: ceramics, wood, prints, books, postcards - all artistic in nature except for the books. I found several nice wall sconces for me and friends and I had a beautiful coyote made of wood (cedar?) shipped back. The coyote was made by a man who belongs to a Indian tribe of the Pacific Northwest. I thought about calling the owner back and asking him to send the raven head to me. These pieces were pricey but of HIGH quality. I also thought his other pieces were in range of what is normally charged for ceramic pieces at other craft shows and I have traveled around the country to quite a few art fairs. I can't wait to come back to stay in Ashford and visit this great shop.I even went back a second time on my last night in Ashford. It is nice he stays open late, this way I was able to visit after a long days journey. Check out the fantastic old barber chair Rick has behind the counter. For those interested in more great art, take a visit to Bainbridge Island for a day - get a map with all the art shops. There are two great shops on WINSLOW WAY in Bainbridge.
These two have really done a fabulous job with their pottery.. with several different themes: specific flowers or tree species.. Very artistic.. Wonderful shop to browse, with cute extras like local made soaps. A must stop on the way thru Ashford.
We were lucky enough to be staying in a wonderful cabin in the woods quite near to Ashford Creek pottery and could not resist a visit here. Rick was busy on his latest artwork but found the time to chat away to two guys from across the pond. The Gallery upstairs was light, airy and had a modern feel and was just about to open up to visitors.Well worth a visit even if you are not an art lover, just stop a few moments and gather your thoughts.
Beautiful pottery, paintings and many other types of art. Great selection of books about the mountain and local history.
Went in to browse, only people there and the women sitting at the desk on here tablet looked up and then ignored us the whole time we were there. Guess business is so good they don't need to be nice! Prices were crazy high anyway.
We stopped in to look at the pottery and I was delighted to find a pair of hand-made earrings by the owner's wife of Mt. Rainier. Upstairs features a lovely display of artwork by Pacific Northwest artists - definitely worth a look. The items for sale in the gallery are beautiful and they feature a lovely variety of items and artists. This is a great stop if you'd like to pick up a memento from your trip that supports local artisans, and have a lovely new showpiece for your home. (I've already gotten several compliments on my new earrings.)
We stopped here looking for a few glass or pottery pieces and were not disappointed in the selection (mostly pottery). Their "consignment" selection is varied and their own pottery is beautiful - a good representation of the area. The owners are delightful and enjoyable to talk to about their work and living in the shadow of MT. Ranier. They were getting ready to open a new art gallery upstairs which included historical pieces as well as some "modern" art. It was well worth the visit and we did indeed find a few treasures to bring home!
Love the beautiful pottery inspired by the wildflowers on Mt. Rainier - lupine & fireweed - as well as the other styles and colors. Lots of books about the area as well, and other artwork.
Not much to see in the small town of Ashford on your way to Mt. Rainier's west entrace, but this place was worth the stop. I am not a big pottery fan and was surprised at how striking these collections are. They have an art gallery upstairs with a log cabin decor that is impressive. Handmade jewelry is sprinkled in between the pottery and the books have some impressive signatures.
