I visited the NC symphony for Raphsody in Blue and I loved it! Such expert musicians and great acoustics made it really enjoyable. If only they would limit the serving of alcoholic beverages though. I've been to concerts here before, were patrons have had way too much to drink and they start to get rowdy and beligerent.I felt as if I was at a Bruce Springsteen show rather than hearing Mozart lol.I really think their "deny service" policy should be looked at and improved upon.

You just don't need to go to New York or London for world-class classical music. The music, musicians, and conductor of the NC Symphony are terrific. The programs offered are equally terrific. The venue is very comfortable with wonderful acoustics. There is plenty of parking just across the street in a parking deck. I've been to a number of performances here and never been disappointed. The New Year's Eve presentation was quite memorable. With all the terrific restaurants very close by, you can enjoy a wonderful evening in downtown Raleigh.

On Friday evening, 1/09/15, we attended the NC Symphony's concert in Meymandi Hall featuring 2 of Gershwin's most well known works, Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris. The orchestra is world class and the presentation of these two pieces was outstanding. I will admit the "Rusty Air in NC" was well performed but that and the dissonant piece for clarinet which was the encore were not to my taste. The opportunity to attend was part of a Christmas gift from our daughter and son-in-law which included dinner at 18 Seaboard...a separate and stellar review. All in all the evening was a very pleasant one indeed. My only other comment was the theater was uncomfortably warm.

Took my 13-yr old grandson for the Peter & The Wolf performance. Prior to symphony, there are several instruments the youth (and adults) are permitted to try. There was also face painting for younger youth; corn hole, etc. Lots of younger children there, was concerned that they'd be bored, could be disruptive, etc., but none of this occured. All seemed to have their attention glued to the music and the story. These are Saturday events; plan to go again and "adopt" some other children to go along.

Wow. This was so much fun and what an incredible talent the NC Symphony and Tony Delara. Would definitely recommend this for the future!

Attended the Pink Martini holiday concert with the North Carolina Symphony. Neither disappointed, Pink Martini always delivers a super entertaining show. The North Carolina Symphony is well known for their solid performances in the region.Event was almost sold out

I have attended the symphony on and off over the years. In the past, they had well known and well respected musicians in their regular season, now they only have "special guest" on "special concerts" with high ticket prices. I am not sure if they have a dress code as some of the members dress poorly to perform on stage. The quality of the performance varies from event to event that you wonder if there is a rehearsal at all.

Superb musicians and conductors. Programs for all classical and pops tastes. Affordable tickets usually available from box office at performance if you are traveling and looking for a great evening of music.

The North Carolina Symphony is outstanding and well worth purchasing tickets for either classical or pop type performances. In Raleigh they perform at the Meymandi Concert Hall which has excellent acoustics. Highly recommend!!!

The orchestra played the music of West Side Story while the remastered movie was screened behind them. We loved it. Also wonderful if you can catch them performing outdoors at the Koka Booth Amphitheater.

We are members and have a full season of performances ahead of us. The orchestra delivers fine performances every time and the venue is easy to find, parking no problem, and attendants most courteous. For a great night out, check their program calendar. Highly recommended.

I've been following the NC Symphony for more than 30 years and the ensemble has matured into a very competent regional orchestra. Repertoire is varied and some of the programmed works are very ambitious for an orchestra of this size and caliber. Some large scale orchestral and choral works are beyond the capabilities of this ensemble and conductor. The orchestra tends to excel at smaller scale ensemble pieces. The principal players are marvelous and very gifted musicians. But the ensemble lacks the sheer number of players, consistency throughout the ranks, precision, musical coherence and interpretation to produce performances of the highest level, again most notably on large complex compositions. Personally, I find Grant Llewellyn to be an uninspiring conductor, especially on German repertoire. Some of his performances fall well short of their goal. Kudos to the orchestra for their continued work in music education throughout the state.

I enjoyed it. We went to see a screening of selected scenes from Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. A live symphony played in sync with the movie on the screen. It was pretty impressive. The building could use more restrooms, but I am grading the symphony, not the building.
