This is a beautiful valley with a small fishing lake. We love to take our bikes over and ride one lap around the lake. About two thirds of the way around the lake is paved and the rest is gravel. It's great scenery and exercise. There's also some paddle boats or canoes for rent. Do be careful not to get in the poison ivy or poison oak if hiking though! I would give it an excellent rating if there wasn't any poison ivy at least on the trails:) Also nice camping sites :)

The lake there stands out for its bluffs and canyons when all around you in Western KS is seeming nothingness. Scott City is due North of Garden City and this area just north of them, but be warned that it's primitive and have a tent if not staying in a town. It's close-ish to Monument Rocks (20 minutes) and Castle Rock (an hour) to the East. Two other non-Kansas looking Western sites.

Really the only thing worth visiting in the western half of the state, but it's worth it. Beautiful spring-fed lake and picturesque camp sites.

Had a great day. Worth every penny of the $5 admission. Ancient pueblo, historic battle field, nice shady picnic and a swimming beach.

We had a little time to kill before heading to our next destination...husband looked at the map and found Lake Scott State Park so we took a little detour and are glad we did. The park has a lot of neat features that are typical of a state park: camping, picnic areas, and some trails but also some unique features: a lake (that we learned is spring fed), some pueblo ruins, and a buffalo pasture just to name a few! We visited with a young ranger who filled us in with some local history and things to see in the area - was very friendly and we were glad to visit with him. This was an unexpected stop for us, but we would definitely stop here again if in the area. There was a day use/registration fee - I can't remember the exact price, but is was $5 or less - well worth it to us. Would be a great place to camp!

I almost hesitate to write about this little piece of heaven because I don't want word to get out. Down in a big draw, the small lake is spring fed, lots of trees, green grass, flowers and such. Very well kept, I compliment the Park Manager for doing an excellent job. Forget your speed boat here-wake limits prohibited. Well maintained and beautiful hiking, horse and bike trail going all around the lake. Lots of game on this preserve to enjoy-a paradise to behold!

Thank god for springs filling up this lake otherwise there might not be anywhere to fish on this side of the state. Hope to god we get moisture soon. But this has always been a beautiful area to go to.

Nice little stop along the way. Great overnight camping spot. A seasonal store to help keep you supplied. Area is full of local historical sites worth visiting.

Western Kansas has little water. For those living near Scott City, the lake is a nice local spot. It is a nice small lake with a lot of fish to bring in. You'll need a fishing license. Very popular for campers. Watch out for poison ivy!

This lovely park will surprise you if you've never been here before but one word of warning. There is a plant that is rampant here, Poison Ivy, and check your campsite carefully for this nasty green charmer.
