During our Stay-cation in Monroe County, we stopped by for a Winter hike in the only State Park in Monroe County. Unfortunately, a solid gate blocks off this state park. The parking lot is not plowed, nor are their any cross country ski trails. It is a shame... Likely another casualty of budget cut backs. The 1 mile walking trail has a number of steps- so it is likely not very safe in the winter time... Looks like a gorgeous place - unfortunately can't be visited for over 1/3rd of the year.

Wanted to hike in the beautiful Fall weather only to find the access closed the first weekend in October. Very disappointing. At least keep a nice park open for Autumn hiking until the first frost... Come on!

Thankfully, I read the helpful reviews before my girlfriend and I decided to campus (not TV style, just regular camping) at this site.Warning, do not go with high expectations of some fabulous/quaint place to camp. You must go with an open mind and be flexible. My best friend and I have some prior camping experiences before, so this was not our first time. We did our research first as to what we should be expecting/to bring. TripAdvisor is awesome for this.We went the last weekend of June, which was hot and muggy. Plus, it had been raining a lot that week. This interprets to prepare yourself to be eaten alive by mosquitoes. The geographic area is typically known for marsh grounds, so mosquitoes and other insects (ticks) are abundant. It is a heavily woodes area too. So, bring the Deep Woods repellant and the candles in a can. I brought 3 and my friend had 1. We used all four completely. We brought our own drinking water. Although the well water at the camp site (old fashion pump that you have to crank) if you don't mind the mineral taste. The campus ground set up was basically in a circle fashion. Your neighbors were literally 10 paces or less away. The toilet facility was walking distance. We picked a site far enough away so we didn't have to smell the sewer. There was a toilet but just a hole in the ground. No hand washing facility provided. So, bring soap. I brought a camping type of shower bag, which came in handy. After sweating all day long, you want to either wash off in the pond or take a birth bath of some sort. The main highway is about 100 yards from the camp grounds. Yes, you can hear teaffic. In addition, trains are close as well. And, you hear them (honk their horn) all.night.long.You have to buy fire wood at the camp site. They do not allow you to bring any from the outside. It has to be a certain radius. My friend and I jogged in the area and hiked the trails. Not much else is in the area to see waliking distance. Overall, we had a good camping experience.

This is a very small and primiative campground. There is no running water or showers. The pit/vault toilets were nice and didn't stink. The water pump was easy to use, but the water smell sulfuric. It has a nice play ground and swimming area. Our campsite was okay, but since we couldn't really get clean I always felt dirty. There is a highway close and a train that runs constantly. Staff was very friendly. If they could just add running water it would be a great place to go!
