This may be my favorite historical place in Bedford, and there are many. If you go during October, you can catch the Murder Mystery tours, but any time of the year, there are things to see and do. It is just like you stepped back in time, with original buildings and reinactors. Take the kids if you wish. Wonderful place.

If you are into Christmas decorations, which we are, Bedford is the place to visit. almost every store was decorated . Really get into small towns that do it up for the holidays

My husband and I decided to take in the attractions in the town of our hotel. We hit it right with the fall special event going on. Which meant all the Artisans were there dressed in costume of the era. Watching the Potter and the Blacksmiths at work was very interesting. We loved the old buildings with the period furniture along with the fireplaces. Enjoyed the Shoemaking and Candle maker along with others. Nice place to spend the day with the family and let kids see how life was back then and work was hard to make a good living.

very realistic even though the cabins were brought in from other areas. The docents were very nice.Worth the time to see this.

My now wife and I stopped here last year on our way home from Washington DC. The trip happened to be during a heatwave that led us here burnt and tired. It was a great little stop that we are constantly recommending.

We arrived close to closing time but still wanted to go in. Had a lot of interaction with the folks doing the reenactments who told is a lot of the history of the homes and what everything was used for. Definitely a good stop and great to see the history of the homes and buildings being able to live on.

We know that we have some buildings that are in need of repair. As a privately funded non-profit facility that relies heavily on volunteers and donations, we often do not have the luxury of the extra money required for aesthetic repairs, and focus first on the buildings that are in the greatest structural needs.As far as the houses not being open, I am not sure what happened on the day of your visit, but we typically have all but two buildings open. One of these was used for a time as our Cooper's Shop, and we currently do not have anyone who is skilled in this very specialized trade. The other cabin, building number 6, has been used for storage for some time, and has been closed to the public. We take great pride in the fact that even our storage areas fit in to the theme of a old-time village.As far as the cabins being dirty, in the 18th and 19th centuries, dirt was a part of daily life. While we keep our buildings suitable for tours, a bit of dirt on the floor or a little dust here and there helps to truly present the correct image of early American life. Again we rely on our volunteers to help with the cleaning of the houses, and are very grateful for all of the help we have.In the very near future, we have additional plans to help with self-guided tours even on days that the Village has limited volunteers available to staff the buildings.I hope this helps to explain some of your concerns.

We took our young children to visit the Village and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Several of the buildings had costumed guides who spoke about their jobs and the buildings. All of the buildings had some signage to help the interpretation.It's a great spot for children. It's a living history museum and not a "don't touch" museum. You get the feeling you really are in an old village long ago.It's just off the PA turnpike and worth an hour or so if you have time while traveling and certainly if you're in the area for any reason. We were staying at the nearby Bedford Springs Resort for the weekend so it was just minutes away from us.

My husband and I stopped to see the village last Friday. It is one of the most interesting places we have visited. The people that were in the shops were so friendly and took their time talking to you, answering all our questions. I would definitely recommend stopping to see Old Bedford Village.

Terrific compendium of historical and/or recreated buildings to pull a village together. Docents knowledgable and friendly along with village felines. Each building had it's own unique history. Picnic tables outside to enjoy a peaceful lunch. Great way to spend a relaxing morning.

We visit Old Bedford Village every August as part of a Living History group, and I always call it my end-of-summer retreat. And an escape it is -- back into colonial times. The houses are not reproductions, but reconstructions of original buildings, and they include a barn, church, schoolhouses, a tavern, and various other properties. There is a lovely pond, live animals, and wonderful presenters who will show you spinning, weaving, and other tasks from the period. The setting is just so lovely -- weeping willow trees, flowers, vegetable gardens. I imagine it is very difficult to keep an enterprise like this going, so I encourage anyone who has thought of stopping by to do so and support this little gem of a historic village. You won't be sorry, to say the least. Plan to take your time and soak up the quiet ambiance.

Re-enactors were informative and genial and to varying degrees even charismatic. This was a stimulating leisure experience -educational, social, and to some degree even physical (i.e. You park and walk, instead of park and sit). It is destination that locals should be proud of!

Unlike, say, Williamsburg, Bedford Village is not a restored settlement on-site, but a collection of old houses and other structures moved to the site and reconstructed. It's just a bit eclectic, which is fine. The real gem, in my view, consists of the costumed interpreters, who without fail were genial and informative. Do research beforehand to find out when it's open, several times we thought of going there and it was closed.
