My best friend and I had this as one of the stops on our annual roadtrip where we set out to see unique and interesting things. This definitely fits the bill. You can take the tour for a few bucks a person and it only lasts about 15 minutes. It's the only liveable shoe house in the country although no one has every actually lived there on a full time basis. The rooms aren't decorated to the period it was built, but instead filled with all sorts of shoe memorabilia that's been sent to the house. You're not allowed to take pictures inside. It's worth the detour and stop though!

We stopped in York on vacation and one of the sights we wanted to see was The Shoe House. Unfortunately it was closed until the second week of Sept. But you could still see it from the road. It looked fascinating from the outside so i'm sure there would have been some interesting sights within. I think we would probably visit it should we ever pass that way again.

I took my two boys here on a fun road trip. I was excited to see the design. Unfortunately we didn't tour the inside, there was a family already touring it and one waiting. When we walked in they have a few things for sale and a couple of tables. The design is awesome tho! They also have a little doghouse with the same design.

The shoe house is worth seeing if you happen to be in the area. The outside of the house is cool to see. The tour is $4.50 per person for about a 10 minute tour and your not allowed to take pictures. The inside of the house is ok, nothing special... A few very small rooms that are not decorated to period. Also, no credit cards are accepted.

Unique to say the least, the tour is well worth you time and is conducted by one of the owners. I was surprised at how spacious the interior was consisting of 3-bedrooms, and two full baths along with a kitchen and living room. Even though the Shoe House has 2-baths, neither are available to visitors. After our tour we enjoyed some ice cream and purchased a shoe house souvenir.

We just missed the opportunity to tour from the inside by about 30 minutes. There was a small area where you could pull off into the front of the driveway where we could take a few pictures and still be off the road. I wish we would have been able to go inside or at least tour closer from the outside. Will try to go again if passing through.

Unfortunately, when we were in the area to visit the Haines Shoe House, it wasn't open for touring. I was greatly disappointed, but did enjoy walking around the outside of the fence and checking the "shoe" out.

We just happened upon this off the road attraction. Surprisingly spacious inside, the tour starts in the "living room" and winds it's way up the heel and ends at the toe. Your guided through the boot by one of the owners of this unique house. Rooms are loaded with shoe figurines and shoe art work. People send all kinds of shoe paraphernalia and the owners display as much as they can. You also get a great glimpse into the man behind the shoe and his vision of a honeymoon destination. Very cool and worth a trip.

I've seen this shoe on television, and now I had a chance to tour it...this is really worth seeing..it's truly amazing how much every inch of the shoe is used! The Maids quarters are on the top floor w/ a complete bath, small closet and very spacious..the next floor down has 2 bedrooms, each having a complete private bathroom & closet.. The third floor in the back by the heel has a complete kitchen with a built in 6' table and bench to eat at...closet space for can goods, stove, refrigerator, work space....the 2nd floor in the toe, is a spacious living room..the arch of the shoe, 1/2 has a laundry room, furnace room and the other half they sell Hershey's Ice Cream and souvenirs..and addition was put on to make the room larger.

We got off the highway to see this wonder and had to be satisfied with views of the outside only.It has a wonderful history. In the more recent past it was loaned out as a vacation home to deserving families. Well kept!

The Haines shoe house was built back in 1948 by shoe salesman Mahlon Haines. He built it as a form of advertisement being he was a shoe salesman. The house was completely built by hand because of the shape, it took a lot of custom work with the wood framing. The house is 25 ft. long and is 5 stories tall. Back in the day it was rented out to couples and is now open for tours and is a historic place. The house has appeared on HGTV and the amazing race reality TV show. The house has a kitchen, living room, and 2 bedrooms. The current owners have put a lot of work into preserving this house. This is a must see because of it's place in history. Check it out for yourself, you will enjoy the tour.
