A very small scale of Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Mi. Nicely kept homes from the early days of Troy, Mi - they do have programs for schools, and lots of summer things to do there. It would make a nice afternoon for the smaller kids and family, with hands on things happening. Watch for special programs. People are very friendly and knowledgeable.

This is a small museum. It has several old buildings from original Troy that have been preserved and moved here. Not a lot here, but it is interesting and something not found in most cities. Best part is if you are here for some of their activities that are run periodically giving more of the history.

The Troy Historic Village is local history at its best. An authentic one room schoolhouse, a church, where weddings can be held, the parsonage, the town hall and several other buildings, often with ongoing demonstrations make this a worthwhile place to visit. The many small gardens, including an ABC garden for children are outstanding. Well worth a visit. Call for hours.

We just recently did a city scavenger hunt that took us to the museum. Upstairs in one of the homes are maps of the city from the 1800's - present. The maps show who owned the land during the years the maps cover - that was fun and interesting to look up our house. My kids have been here on several field trips over the years. First grade was making butter and seeing how life on a farm back then was, second grade was Poppleton - the one room schoolhouse, eighth grade was something to do with the Civil War - I didn't go on this one. These field trips only focused on one building or activity. The kids LOVED Poppleton - the one room schoolhouse. The teacher was excellent and never broke character. The eighth grade trip my daughter didn't like even though she enjoys history. If you want the history of Troy you can find it here. I would say an hour and you could see everything. The museum is a nice one time visit unless you are with a school. The museum isn't very big. They do offer some special programs like Hanging of the Greens/visit Santa they we attended when the kids were younger.

Nice to see the pride this city has in its history. Grew up here in this city when it was much smaller, population then around 10,000. Many buildings from my past that would have vanished otherwise are preserved. This city has changed dramatically since I lived here. It was nice to see these old structures from the old days for there is very little remaining. The administration office is in the old city hall/police station,(had only two cars back then).

There are seven buildings in this little community, all more than 150 years old. And all an important part of the very early years of Troy. The small cluster is grouped very near the Troy Historic Museum, an imposing private home turned exhibition space. The footprint of the community reminded me of the Whitefish Point Coast Guard property in Michigan's UP. All the buildings are maintained in a pristine condition. The community allows visitors a glance into life lived typically in the 1830s to 1850s. Among the buildings open to tour are a Parsonage, school, blacksmith shop, and general store. The museum itself has a nice gift shop, along with period artifacts. The community is open to visitors Tuesday through Thursday, only; from 10 AM to 3 PM.
