If you are visiting the caverns, its a perfect quick little stop to see this old covered bridge. Easy to find from the caverns. The covered bridge appears to be in such amazing shape. We pulled over after going thru the bridge in a small area next to the bridge to take pictures. It was February so there was no cornmaze or decent weather to have a picnic but I would assume in nicer weather there is a lot more traffic in the area.

Few covered bridges still exist today and even fewer are in regular use. This is a delightful and easy to access stop.

I was surprised how much traffic there was. The bridge was interesting as a photographic experience. There is a place to park and a picnic table. It was too cold to picnic but it might be fun in warmer weather. There was a sign for a corn maze in summertime, otherwise nothing else to do right there, but there are other things to do in the area.

In Virginia the cover bridge are also known as Kissing Bridges. So I was determined to drive my wife of 42 years to one. After a 4 hour drive we got there. Well when I got to the town we stopped at Route 11 chips factory. It was pretty cool. Then we went to a Museum with nothing but famous parade floats..now that was a pretty cool surprise. All this in the same area as the Meems bottom bridge. Now the trouble started when my car GPS did find it. But the trip advisor on my phone, have GPS directions. So off we went. We ended up about 15 miles away in the wrong direction. I was worried when we were sent over a small mountain on a dirt road. When we got back on the pavement I remember I had printed out the address. The car GPS took me there! It was very nice and just like others have said. And yes I did get my kisses!

it is easy to find and well worth the effort. It really looks like a postcard. This is a perfect place to take pictures or stop and have a picnic. There are picnic tables available.

Be sure to walk down the path that leads from the parking area under the bridge. From there the perspective is impressive.

After visiting Rt 11 Chip Factory took a quick drive to see this beautiful covered bridge. Definitely a must when in the area.

We had a group of 12 of us...ages ranging from 4 to 58. All of us loved it!! We were visiting the area for some tubing and were looking for other fun places to explore. Sadly we didn't make it to the bridge until about and hour til dark. We could've stayed there all day exploring, playing in the water and hiking around. The bridge is beautiful and creepy at the same time. It was kind of neat seeing it at dark cause it was PITCH black when you went in there. Couldn't see a thing til you reach the other side. I hope to go back and have more time to explore soon!!!

This bridge really is an historic bridge leading from the Meems Bottom's flood plain land to higher ground on the other side. It is a GREAT example of how these covered bridges were made.Yes, you can drive across the enclosed bridge structure .... but there are posted weight limits for heavier trucks and trailers. The Virginia Department of Transportation gave this historic bridge new footings and piers some 40 years ago ... but the wooden portions are much older and VDT keeps them in good repair. You may walk across the bridge (watch for oncoming traffic) or wade in the Shenandoah River underneath.Take time to visit the annual Corn Maze held from late August through October in the farm to the right as you approach this wonderful covered bridge .... great fun to see and enjoy for families, children, teens, young at hearts, or folks who "just like to remember."A historic highway marker sign at the Meems Bottom Bridge's entrance from US 11 south of Mount Jackson, Virginia, gives visitors further details. a must see for anyone passing through Mount Jackson. A great place to picnic or to skip rocks along the creek.

On Saturday, May 31st, went to Mt. Jackson, VA for the day and had a great time. It is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley but has some interesting places to see. We visited the museum in town and the lady asked if we were going to the Shenandoah Caverns and if we were we needed to stop by the two buildings before going into the caverns. One was the Yellow Barn and the other was the American Celebrations of Yesteryear. As we were not able to go tour the caverns we went to the places she recommended. The Yellow Barn was way cool and the American Celebrations was AWESOME. There were all kinds of floats that used to be in the Rose Bowl Parade, Macy’s Parade, Christmas Parade, etc. They were the actual floats. Really cool place. Made you feel like a kid again. Also, visited the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge. Would like to return in the fall and visit it again. Worthwhile going.

This is a nice little bridge to view and if you walk down to the bottom of it there is a nice little creek to stand by. Cars actually use this bridge.

This is an easy stop and interesting. ...very picturesque. ...historical and unique. This being my old stomping grounds ...until recently I had only been to the bridge but never actually crossed. This time I came from the opposite direction and crossed toward Rt. 11. ... It is beautiful at any time of year.

In a recent drop, my GPS took me off the highway (a shortcut?) and onto N Valley Pike Road. What a pleasant surprise / road / drive.Plenty of cool old cars in front / backyards. A few small quaint little towns (small town America rules), and the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge.Off the main road by 1/3 of a mile or so, but well worth the short drive. Very quiet and pleasant surrounding. A nice bridge to take pictures of, and just a nice way to break up a long drive for 30 minutes or so.

On a cold but sunny and beautiful fall day, we decided to explore the nearest covered bridge from Washington DC metro. The map said it was just less than 2 hours from Northern VA so we went. It was a great decision. The bridge although restored was first built in the 1800s and is the longest covered bridge in VA. It was really a beautiful experience. When you get to the bridge, there is space for parking for 5 or so cars. We went down and explored the river/stream which was also really beautiful. I imagine it is going to be a good spot for a summer picnic when its warmer. I saw a picnic table by the roadside too. We went up to the bridge and ran across to the other side and back. We just made sure we were making a lot of noise so the cars see us. I noticed that the drivers are very mindful of the "one-way" capacity of the bridge and seem to be very safety-oriented. After we enjoyed the covered bridge experience, we went to the Route 11 Potato Chips Factory which is very close to the bridge. They made great potato chips and on 'cooking' days you can see the factory at work! Great experience for the kids. We also went to the nearby Cave Ridge Winery (on 1476 Conicville Road; Mt Jackson VA 22842) voted as the best winery in the Shenandoah Valley in 2012. It was a great day trip on a beautiful fall day.
