The tour guides were exceptional and learning about that time in history and where some everyday phrases come from was a wonderful addition.Definitely worth the $5 for the tour... Just mind your "P's and Q's"!!

When we visited Fredericksburg this past December, it was closed, however when we lived in the area, we have visited this tavern many times. The tour is a trip into history. This well furnished tavern has much to see and has much history. George Washington and many other early patriots visited this outstanding tavern. If you are in Fredericksburg, do NOT miss this tavern.

What a great tour!! The costumed guides make this visit entertaining, as well as educational. Our guide was fantastic. He kept everyone involved and provided many details on Colonial life. The tavern is the former home built by George Washington’s youngest brother Charles around 1760 and later became a tavern in 1792.

We stopped here on our way to DC and it was well worth the detour. We had an amazing docent who kept was informative and entertaining. Our family loves Williamsburg and this tour rivals the best tours there. Tour was about an hour- we did ask questions so it may be shorter. We would like to go back to visit the apothecary. Visit- you won't be disappointed.

We visited with several other people including a 9-year-old. The tour is every bit as good as any tour in Williamsburg VA. Guide very thorough and full of interesting info. We had not visited for maybe 10 years or so, and the tavern is still a ''must-see'' if you are in town. We got the Timeless Pass at the Visitor Center--good until all sites visited. Our friends got the day pass. We visited 4 places so they got their money's worth. Lafayette visited the tavern and a room is named after him. It would be fun to attend a small special event that included some ale and snacks from that time period. Hint, hint.

This tour is perfect for older children, teens and adults. You will learn about drinking and lodging customs of Colonial times at "the" local pub of its day frequented by many important Colonial leaders. The costumed guides are lively, and will tell you about famous sayings today - like "Bottoms Up" - that are based on tavern customs of long ago. If you have unenthusiastic teens in your group this is one of the best attractions in Fredericksburg to pique their interest in Colonial history.

Definitely worth a visit to hear about how an old tavern worked in those days and to learn where some of the old sayings come from like 'bottoms up', 'drinks like a fish' etc. Our guide was very knowledgable and entertaining and she was only 15 years old. Best recommendation I can give is to visit the visitors centre and get a day pass and you can visit as many of these places as you like for only $16!

Great guides in costume and character give you a real feeling of the history of this place. We came away with a much better understanding of this time in history and how people lived and traveled in these times.

I was not expecting all that much when I entered this historic tavern. From the tour guide I learned how so many of our everyday expressions came from early colonial life; as well as ascertained a feel for life in the 18th century. She also provided some great tips for places to eat in and around Williamsburg, VA.

Welcoming and informative guides in period dress quickly bring you into the time of taverns whom offered food, drink, and lodging to travelers of various classes in colonial times. So those less fortunate might share a bed with five (men), and women their own rooms, but again, the higher class more amenities. The same differences were explained re drink and food. Well worth the time to visit.

A step back in time, with staff in full costume. Very well done, full of explanation of how life was in the 18th Century when the Inn, built by George Washington's brother, was a very upmarket hostelry.

A "wench" gives you a tour of what it was like to stay in a tavern during the late 18th century. The tour goes through the different rooms and we got to sample the type of food served during that time period. Good family thing to enjoy.

Interesting tour of historic tavern and inn that was once owned by George Washington's younger brother. Authenic tour guide gives an enteraining tour. Worth the small $5.00 tour fee and a chance to see a piece of history.

This was fun and interesting tour. In several places in Fburg, they dress in the time period and they are there in that time talking to you. They treat you like travelers and you are part of the tour. It was fun, entertaining and educational too. The tavern wenches do the first floor with you and you are free to do the second floor on your own. Admission in general was reasonable, many of the attractions offer a 3 A discount. But if you are going to be there for a few days, it pays to do the Timeless ticket that is purchased at the Visitors center on Caroline Street. It is $32 and you have admission forever at 9 attractions. We were there 2 1/2 days and we were not able to do everything the ticket allows. Only down side to most of these attractions is that they are open 10Am to 5PM for the most part. But it was enjoyable. One you won't want to miss.
