I went to this museum with family and as a couple. I love this extremely interactive museum. You really need a whole day to explore the whole thing. It is never too busy. I have a personal microchip card to check my progress every time I come back. I went to a great cooking demonstration that teaches about healthy eating. I would go back over and over again. great for all ages.

My daughter and I went to see the Wicked Plants exhibit because we are both avid gardeners. We were not disappointed. Even my husband who is a history buff enjoyed it. Fans of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children should also get a kick out of this exhibit because there are many pictures of peculiar children and just plain weird stuff. My daughter, who is a science nerd, also loved the standard exhibits. The gift shop has many items not found in other stores. Overall, it was a great family adventure.

Full of interactive exhibits, this museum will keep you entertained for hours, fascinating exhibits. Gift shop.

My husband and I had a fun time exploring all the interactive exhibits. The exhibit on "wicked plants" was interesting and informative. Overall the content was average but the interactive aspects were what made the museum.

This museum is housed in an old train station! The place is wonderful, wide and high rooms they even have trains to walk thru. The have so many different exhibits that there is sure to be one that everyone in your group will love and its all ikntereactive. I visited while the "Wicked Plants" exhibit was there and loved it. Set up as a spooky mansion you walk through. Plan on spending at least two to three hours here. Children and adults will enjoy themselves.

If you're looking to kill a few hours with the family it's not bad. Was hoping for more interactive things.

This large museum, housed in a former railroad station, offers a fascinating array of exhibits, informal lectures and movies. It’s a hands-on place, extremely child-friendly. While not an aquarium or zoo, it does have a limited display of live fish, amphibians, reptiles and insects (including a 4-inch cockroach for those who like such things). Our favorite attractions: an exhibition of rats trained to play basketball (!) and a wonderful movie about saving pandas from extinction. A few minor drawbacks: lighting is kind of dim in some of the galleries, and some of the written explanations can be hard to read. They could also use a few more guides or docents. Still, it’s a great learning experience for visitors of any age, and it’s also a lot of fun.

The exhibits were a bit mature for my 3 and 5 year-old, but would be great for those over 8. The planetarium was well worth the money. Great show. The Periodic Table Cafe is a limited, what-they-can-make-in-the-microwave type of place. Okay for the place, but nothing fancy.

We spent an afternoon at the museum, which is located within and around the old train station. Lots of history, lots to do. Very hands on and largely targeted to younger kids.

The old train station is lovely, but the exhibits are old and boring. They did not hold the attention of my children or us adults. I wished there were more information on the station itself. I won't go back or recommend

I went for the train show again this year. Tremendous displays and folks willing to talk about their layouts. My grandson(s) go with me each year and (no matter how old they get) always enjoy it. The regular museum displays are educational and well done.

We went for the railroad exhibit and one of the IMAX movies. We have been members for years, and there is nothing we don't like about this museum. Also, when we were in Hawaii a couple of summers ago, our membership card for SMV earned us free admission to a very expensive Honolulu museum. We have also presented it for free admission to a museum in Seattle and one in Bozeman, Montana. We live about two hours from Richmond, but we take our grandsons to SMV whenever we can, and we always stop on our way back from Williamsburg or the beach.

Lots of entertainment for kids and many that adults would enjoy also, some of them are quite challenging. I loved the "music station" part , I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Since its been years since I last was there. Though I have always liked this Building, I don't usually find its exhibits very interesting. But from the amount of kids there...they sure do. Bottom line: your kids will enjoy it.....

And yet there was not a shortage of interesting science facts that kept their interest. The staff were very helpful, the building neat and clean( some repairs needed) they handled our group well. Overall a nice day

This science museum is in Richmond, Virginia. It is not as big as some other museums, but has enough to keep kids busy for 2 hours or so. I go to many science museums and Id say this one does not have as much as others in big cities such as Boston or Philly, but if you are passing through, it may be worth a visit. The building itself is very nice. Its an old building (maybe 80 years old or so) with large columns in front and a high atrium with a large pendulum in it. Most of the exhibits were dated, talking about the space shuttle in the present tense, etc... However, there was a very cool exhibit called "Boost" in the basement, which I recommend. It has a bunch of interactive stations for physical fitness. Another interesting part of the exhibit was an interactive music station where you can program real instruments to make a complex rhythm. Once you program it, actuators hit real drums to make the sounds to make the beats. Its a lot of fun. If it weren't for the Boost exhibit, Id give the place 3 dots, but with the boost exhibit, it deserves four dots. It has a nice cafeteria too. Also, for those who drive an electric car, there is a charging station in the parking lot.
