We came to Caddo this Labor Day weekend, 2014. We brought our own wave runner and pontoon boat, but wouldn't you know it, the outboard on the boat quit running right. So, my father in law decided we were still going to get a long bot ride to go into the big part of the lake. I am so glad he did this too. Aaron is the owner and capt that met us in the morning dock side at the cabin we were staying at. It was a nice ride out. He knows the area and history as only a local can. We had some questions and he is the man with the answers. About midway through the tour you will get to stop at a very old rustic lake store/fuel dock and get a chance to get off the boat, buy some drinks and snacks and get a bathroom break. I'm sure you can bring your own cooler with some drinks and stuff and I would bring at least some water and stuff, but then if you are at the lake you should already know this. We also did the steam boat ride too but I will save that for another review. For a good time boat ride and some local knowledge call Aaron. I'm sure you will be glad you did.
We were 4 adults and 5 kids (age 2 to 7) that went on a 1.5h trip a Saturday in March, and had a great time. As another reviewer pointed out the captain did not speak all the time, but we found that nice, so we could fully take in the beauty of the lake. And he was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had very thoroughly. Also as soon as he spotted a bird he could tell us straight away what bird it was. On the river at the way home all the kids (even the two year old) got to try to steer the boat, which they really liked.
I just went on the tour with my family(3 children - 12, 8 and 6). The tour was nice but nothing special. While the tour guide(Aaron) said interesting things about the lake, I just wish he would have spoken more about it. There was a lot of silence(if you like silence, then this is for you). The tour was about 90 minutes. We were on a patoon boat and it seemed we were on a larger parts of the lake. Only a few times did we go down a route where the trees were close on both the left and right. The cool part of the lake is where you feel closely surrounded by trees - we just did not have enough of that experience. The reason for this may be the size of the boat - smaller boats may go into those close areas. Aaron is a very nice guy and did answer my questions.
I can't say enough about Mystique Tours and the boat captain/guide Arron. Honestly 5 stars out of 4!! What a way to get to know the lake. It takes only a few minutes to see how much he cares about the area and how much he knows - to boot he's a pretty cool guy. He actually let my kids pilot the boat for awhile. We booked an hour tour with him that I really wish would have been a longer booking. I live in the Tyler area and thought i had seen east Texas but this is a jewel to be discovered.Caddo Lake is an awesome experience that I will definitely enjoy again and mystique tours was an excellent way to start the adventure. I live in east Texas and have for almost 40 years and I was completely blown away by the scenery. My family consists of two children 9 and 11; my wife 30 and myself 46. We had never been to the Caddo Lake area, Aaron was very knowledgeable and passionate in answering all of our questions and explaining the complexity of the beautiful region that he calls "home". Not only does he possess a wealth of knowledge passed on by his father but Aaron was also involved in the Parks and Wildlife of Caddo Lake giving him a unique insight into the history and bio-diverse ecosystem. He was wonderful with the children and patient in answering all of their questions and making them feel a part of the "adventure."
