Not knowing much about the history of Texas, this facility proved to be most insightful. A must for any visitor to Austin.

Take a walk through Texas Sate history. I was very impressed and learnt a lot. Displays were well presented and informative.

Well worth the time and money to go see. We enjoyed the whole place. We only went to the exhibition rooms as we did not go there to sit and watch a movie. It is right down the street from the capital, which is free, so the cost evens out.

This is one of the best museums I have ever been to. Maybe I'm biased as a native Texan in a Texas history museum, but I really love everything that it has to offer. From the 4D movies to the 3 floors of in-depth history, the museum is spot on. I've been here twice, and I would love to go back. There is so much to see, do, and learn about here that you won't ever be bored. It's a great (and cheap!) place to go, especially on a rainy day. Tickets are $12 down, and you can also purchase inexpensive tickets for an IMAX movie or to a movie in the 4D Spirit Theater. So much fun! We had a family of four (13,16, and two adults) and no one was bored.

I have had a membership at the Bob Bullock since it opened. I moved to GA but still kept my membership for a couple years. Now I'm visiting Austin again and plan to rejoin the museum. I love the exhibits and the museum store where I've purchased many Christmas presents and Texas souvenirs. The 3rd floor music corner of TX recording artists and other famous Texans is a real treat. The TX Spirit Theater and the IMAX provide extra good entertainment.

My friend and I heard about the ship that's being restored and displayed there and decided to check it out. Turns out this museum is pretty knew and was build sort of around The Belle exhibit. In addition to a large room dedicated to the ship's restoration. There are 2 other floors that allow you to walk through the Texas history. Considering it was our first time in Texas, we found it to be interesting and informational.

Husband and I went here because it was raining...what a smart choice! Being from the Midwest we didn't know much about Texas. Museum closed at 5 and we ran out of time to see all the exhibits. Go!!!

... is so independent and republican. As a Canadian with no knowledge of Texas' history, the Museum and its exhibits gave me an excellent overview of Texas and its revolutionary origins. Really worth a visit to put your visit in context. And don't forget to catch a movie there. Great IMAX offerings.

Came here figuring two hours in the parking meter would be enough time...we could of easily spent three or four. Take your time and park in the museum parking lot instead. There is a plethora of information around the museum. La Belle was on exhibit and we spent almost half of our time on the lower level learning about the ship and watching them piece it back together. There are three stories to this museum with the friendliest guides and teachers along the way to answer any questions you may have.Definitely recommended for all ages.

They are restoring a sunken ship here and you can see a film of the step by step progress . The volunteers were great and explained so many things to us.

Texas is HUGE and there is a lot of history. Learn about it in a fun way at this terrific museum. We had such a good time!

I am not a big museum fan, but I really enjoyed this one and it provided more than just learning more about Texas history. The building is relatively new and has a very nice design and lay out. Upon entry the first thing you see is a beautiful, colorful, large circular mosaic on the floor depicting some of Texas' history. The steps that take you to the upper levels provide great views of that mosaic and at one of the landings is an explanation of the various parts of it. Elevators are also available if the steps are too much of a challenge. There is a tremendous amount of printed information on the history of the state as well as numerous audio/video presentations. So much of the historical information in the museum is not confined to Texas. Some is about Texas fight for independence, but others are about the western expansion of the US, the role of Texas in slavery and the Civil War, the reconstruction that followed and the civil rights movement during LBJ's tenure. It also touches on other aspects of the state's history such as the oil boom, the contribution to WWII, space exploration, science and technology (semiconductors e.g.) and medical research with heart transplants. All in all I think it is a very good museum from which one can learn a lot, not only about Texas history but that of the US. In the short 3 hour visit I was only able to scratch the surface - some day maybe I'll get back to see what's new and finish what I started.Sent from my iPad

Allow at least 4 hours. This a very comprehensive museum. We got through the first and second floors in about 4 hours. Mind you, my husband reads every word on everything. I thought the kids attending were captivated. The museum is reconstructing and restoring a French ship that was found around 1995 that had been underwater for some 300 years. It is a fascinating.

If you want to learn about the history of Texas, come here! This museum was very informative and the new ship exhibit from 1685 La Salle expedition to Texas was amazing. The museum has a great layout that starts with colonial times and progresses to modern time. I would highly recommend visiting this museum and the museum parking garage is right next door and very convenient.

Interesting historical exhibits and movie about the founding of Austin. Make sure to park in their lot as it is near the University and if you park on the street and your time runs out, the fines are quite high.
