There's historical museums...and then there's museums like this one where you're literally walking in to the past. This was really great. We took a homeschool field trip here and my 5 (soon to be 6) year old probably enjoyed herself more than anyone else. You can read a book about history and look at pictures all day long but there's nothing like actually seeing history in person. We took well over and hour to look at everything. We went during the week and we were the only people there. It was AWESOME! No fighting crowds or anything. I've been to Lubbock a thousand times and I never knew about this place. I'm sure we'll back in the future. Also, right now theres a pretty large collection of art from HD Bugbee, which really embodies pioneers and ranchers. The price is equally great... nothing! We left a donation though because we were so impressed.

The Ranching Heritage Center is amazing. With real pioneer buildings located in one outdoor walking trail. All are outfitted and decorated in the way they may have been in the 1800's. Plaques and a map help infor m the visitor on the buildings use and distinct history. My kids love it! (Be sure and keep eyes peeled for the jack rabbits who reside within the grounds!)On the downside, they lock up the outside an hour before close. Understandable, but they need to let people know before they arrive at the museum. (Maybe online?)

This is a great place to send 2-3 hours while in Lubbock. There is a self-guided walking tour that includes 50+ original Texas plains homes, ranch houses and schools from the mid-1800s to early 1900s.The interior includes both permanent and temporary exhibits of West Texas culture. On loan through mid-March is a terrific exhibit of Harold Dow Bugbee art. There is also an exhibit of saddles that is very interesting. Staff is very knowledgeable and welcoming.A great place to visit.

This is worth the walk. Allow time to read all the historical descriptions for each building. An excellent preservation of history.

Something for everyone..important historical prospective, but the entrance was very difficult to find off a busy highway: need a real ranch entrance!

The museum was Fantastic. I am not a person really into the ranch seen but I loved this museum. The buildings outside were moved there from the original sites. The train they have is unbelievable. I want to visit the museum again if I am in Lubbock.

This facility allows you to literally walk through time and see how early settlers of the area lived and worked. The landscape is well-maintained, and interesting to look at and walk through. As someone who enjoys learning more about life on the prairie and pioneer days, this museum is one of my favorites! Hint: Keep your eyes open! There are LOTS of jackrabbits to act as tour guides!

This is not a bad place to visit, and the price is right, but it gets kind of tiring after a while. It would be better of there were tours given of the insides of the houses. It is definitely not the place to go on a hot day.

I run a business in Lubbock fo several years and when we had customers come in and needed something to do while they waited we would send them to the National Ranching Heritage center to spend some time checking how we lived thru the years. We always got good reviews and the customers enjoyed the experience. I have visited the center several times and always find it interesting.

The Ranching Heritage Center was one of the first places we visited when we moved to Lubbock. We continue to take our family visitors from back east to the Center. They are always impressed. The Ranching Heritage Center really helps you see and fell how live was lived in the past. Highly recommend that you visit the Center.

We took our grandchildren from Chicago to see the Ranching Heritage Center and it was a great learning experience for them. Seeing the old period homes was fascinating to them and to see how people lived during that time period. We have been to the center several times and they continue to update the center with new and more displays. The center is not to be missed!

This attraction is free (donation appreciated) and has a large collection of homes from frontier days from the area in and around Lubbock. Recommend it very highly!

A collection of farm and ranch buildings assembled over several acres. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the grounds and looking through the various examples of shelter, grand houses, mercantiles and barns. It provides a realistic view of life and conditions on the South Plains in days of yore. Nice exhibits indoors as well.If you have never visited the RHC, you just have to go. It's just great!
