Fred Harmon's Red Ryder character and the later BB gun made even more famous by the movie "Christmas Story" (which was shot in our hometown near Cleveland) made this stop a must for us! And anyone would so enjoy this collection, housed in the very home of the artist, still occupied by his son and daughter-in-law, who are treasures themselves! As they opened just for us, we took our leave by mid-afternoon, after much enjoyable conversation and tales they both contributed and taking many printed card samples of his famous oils, the famous "Red Ryder" bucking horse graphic, and the popular print of "Going Home". Call these folks if the museum is closed and they will call you back to allow you to visit if they are able; they live there themselves, and their hospitality is warm and genuine! Thank you Cindy at the Junction Restaurant for encouraging us to call. We are so glad we did!

As comic, tv and movie fans, we had to stop by for a visit - and our expectations were met. Little did we expect to get a personal and friendly guide - let alone to hear the story of a western artist's full and varied life. Family, education, business, adventure, hard work and passion led to success. Wish we had had more time...

I didn't know much about Fred Harmon before stopping here, but I'm glad we stopped in. We were even lucky enough to be able to talk to Fred Harmon's 87 year old son. Lots of his paintings on exhibit, along with pictures from way back to when he worked with Walt Disney!

This is a small museum with a small entrance fee, $3 for adults. Fred Harman is the creator of the cartoon Red Ryder which the Daisy Red Rider air rifle is named after. Three rooms, his studio and 2 others contain cartoons, paintings, a sculpture and photos of famous western actors with whom he associated. John Wayne, and the actor who played Fetus on Gunsmoke.

We all had a good time here very educational, children kept asking questions. The employees were very polite and informative.

Fun to hear of the artistic life and times of Fred Harman. Very knowledgeable docents. Tucked away in a little park-like area in center of Pagosa Springs.

This is a small, very specialized museum. There is some interesting old artwork and Western artifacts. Call ahead to be sure it is open.

Learned alot, had a great time. its worth the time to stop in. Bought a red ryder BB gun and had it autographed, a cool little place to check out.

If you know Red Ryder and Little Beaver, you will love this small museum for all its art and history relating to this comic strip. But it is just as interesting for people who just have an interest in the Old West. The paintings and other collectibles on display are a joy. The docents are well informed and enthusiastic. If you are lucky, you may run into Fred Harman and hear him tell some of his stories of his remarkable pioneer family.

Great museum - just stopped in to check out, and left over an hour later. Very informative, friendly host.

Don't let the outside fool you. The museum has most of Mr. Harman's paintings. They show a CD with a narrative about many of the paintings which I found to be most informative.

Small museum about Fred Harman including his art work and comic strip, Red Ryder. $3 admission well worth it. Well informed guide showed us around. Interesting and fun stop. The museum is the home where Fred Harman lived and is now occupied by his son.

Fascinating look at the man behind the comic strips. Beautiful paintings. Takes me back to my childhood with my bb gun.

This is a fun stop where you will learn about Fred Harman the cartoonist who created the Red Rider comic strip. You'll visit his home and studio, view some of his original art and a collection of comic strips. A nice stop for the family.
