This a a fun path to walk, but mind the hot sun in the summer as in many places there is little shade. People on bikes tend to be pretty well behaved and with dogs on leads it makes things easy.

We were able to run these trails every morning during our stay in Durango. As some people have commented they're not really marked very well so if you're not from the area it's pretty easy to get somewhat lost in a neighborhood or two but I personally thought that was kind of fun. There are little dirt trails that branch off here and there to give you access to the water which is nice. About the only down side to the trail network are the locals that use it. Don't expect too many "good mornings" or "hellos" or even a smile if you greet them.

This is another hiking trail that is close to town. ALL cement or black top for easy walking or biking.

Pros: long trail; great scenery along the river; asphalt surface, so it's relatively easy on the knees; well-connected to areas of the city.Cons: easy to take a wrong turn and exit the trail into a neighborhood.

Residents are blessed to live near this river. It's an award winning trout river, and wildlife abounds. The dog loved the river, and the walk goes for miles. You can access the River Walk at numerous spots all through Durango which makes it a fun activity for the family. Stop at park playground along the way, take a meal, have a drink, shop, and just keep walking. Bikes are welcome, and make it a little faster and easier.

It was an excellent trail for walking or riding a bicycle. The views were great, hills, light on the river, people in the riverbank kayaks.A very relaxing, safe place for exercise and enjoyment

Because I was pushing a wheelchair, there were no places, at all to exit the trail , which I though was really poorly planned.

Beautiful river walk that runs through downtown. I caught it around 7:00 when the sun was coming up over the mts. It was stunning, and got several great pix from the bridge.

My wife and I rented bikes and road the trail. Totally comfortable and incredibly scenic. Plenty of ups and downs that made it fun. Highly recommend taking the trail whether you ride bikes or walk.

This is a very peaceful walking trail that is easily accessible. Fun to watch people tubing down the river.

My husband and I stayed in the historic old town of Durango. We did this walk on two separate days. The first day we went south, beginning at Albertson's in downtown and ending at Walmart. The trail goes along the river the entire way. There is a park along the way with toilet facilities. We ate at a Texas barbeque restaurant overlooking the river about 1/2 way through the walk; but there are no other restaurants on the southern walk. We were able to catch the bus back into town from Walmart (runs every 1/2 hour and costs $1 per person). The walk is quite beautiful; the City has done a good job on this.We took a walk on the Riverwalk from the historic downtown to the northern terminus (32nd Street). This is much more through town. There are many, many parks that the walk connects, together with the high school. It is a pretty active area, with lots of joggers, walkers and bikers. Lots of places to sit along the way and several toilet facilities along the way. We walked to 32nd Street and then went up to Main Street to catch the trolley back to town (free of charge). There are several restaurants within a couple of blocks of 32nd Street if you want to get some breakfast or lunch before heading back into the center of town. The Riverwalk is all paved and pretty level. Most of it is 8 feet wide, which easily accomodates walking two abreast and leaving room for the bicyclists. There are lamplights along the way and benches, fountains and parks. It would be an easy bicycle with young children and would also be a great place to take a picnic lunch. It is a wonderful asset to the City of Durango; they should be proud of what they accomplished with this project!

An easy, paved trail winding through Durango, Colorado. Easy enough for people of all ages, long enough to be challenging for those seeking a good work out. Gorgeous mountain views, and runs alongside the Animas River.
