An excellent hike but be aware there are spots that u can EASILY end up off of the trail. Also there is a false summit when u reach the large flat rocks with an amazing view. Follow the yellow spray painted arrows for the ACTUAL summit. Although the pics arent as great there

Moderate hike near Lake George. Easy to find. Well marked trail. Nice view. Bet it's spectacular in the Autumn. Total hiking time 3 1/2 to 4 hours

There are spectacular views (and blueberries) on the mountain! There are two different ways to get to the summit (top of the mountain) to see the view. From the north, in Hogsworth, there is a 4.6 Miles roundtrip hike. This hike is a shorter trip to the summit; however, there is very little scenery on your way there. You will pass over streams and rocks (follow the blue "foot trail" markers and you will be fine). Please note the signs to get to the beginning of the trail can be confusing. When you drive to the Buck Mountain Summit sign in Hogsworth, please follow the arrow pointing to Campsite 10. This will bring you to the beginning of the trail. (We had to learn the hard way by getting lost! We were lucky enough to bump into a extremely kind couple who helped us out) There are very little cars/people on the road to the trail. The road is very rocky and dusty. An alternative hiking route, from the south in Pilot Knobb, is 6.6 Miles roundtrip. This is a longer trail; however it does have more scenery on your way to the summit.Whichever way you choose, I highly recommend this. Bring a camera, some lunch and soak in the gorgeous view on top of this glorious mountain's summit!

Trail was 3+ miles. Clearly marked -- until the top, a/k/a the point of hiking mountains. Had to shimmy up a rockface to get to "a" top and still had doubts this was it -- there were no other hikers there so I kind of doubt it. A bit monotonous.

This hike is not easy for a middle aged man such as myself, follow the blue markers attached to trees to stay on the path. Where we started it was a 2.5 mile hike to the summit. It took four of us just shy of an hour and a half to reach the summit. The view from the top is breathtaking, well worth the hard work!

I am not an avid hiker but this mountain was perfect for me. It kicked my butt a little but the views of the lake once you get to the top are so worth it.

This trail is not easy, but starting out from the Pilot Knob rd trailhead gives you a gradual ascent of just under 2000' in just under 3.5 miles. Very enjoyable trip and a killer view on top! Grab a lunch on the bottom and enjoy a fresh air picnic spread on the summit.

There was plenty of parking at the trailhead. We checked in at the signin board and started up the trail. For the most part the trail was wide and well marked. There were a few markers missing part way up but the trail was fairly obvious. The trail was free of trash as was the summit. The stone-covered summit offered a beautiful view of Lake George in both directions. This trail is moderate in difficulty in my opinion. Some sections are easy but there are about 5 sections that are steep and rock covered. You definitely need to take some food and water with you to stay hydrated and full of energy.Loved this trail.

For truly amazing views of the lake this is a terrific hike. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours each way plus whatever time you would like at the top. There really are no views along the way until you get to about the 3 mile point when you reach the first summit. At this point there are great views looking south but the best views come at the summit. There are terrific views looking south, west to Bolton landing and north up the Narrows. Overall this is a moderate hike with some difficult portions.

The Buck mountain trail near Lake George is one of the spectacular ones close to the capital region of upstate NY. The trail to the summit itself is pretty steep and rocky in parts but the view from the summit is truly rewarding. Especially during the Fall season, the Adirondacks look spectacular. I would rate the trail as moderate to difficult. There are no restrooms or restaurants at the trail head. Getting to the trail head is a bit tricky and is only accessible by car. Just FYI: we took exit 20 on I-87 North and followed route 9 north. Then took the first right after the shopping mall to route 149 headed east. Stayed on route 149 until the golf course on your left (queensbury golf course) And took the immediate left on to 9L. Stayed on 9L north towards the lake, then took right turn at the fork onto Pilot Knob Road. Follow this road for another 2miles until you see a the fire station on the right. The trailhead and the parking lot are next to the fire station.
