We came here during an exhibit of Hudson River school painters and also of the Wyeth's. I don't know that the latter are always here but the Hudson school and other works are. There is also a very lovely cafe here and the native american display was one of the better exhibits I've seen on the subject. Make this a must.

This is a wonderful museum in a beautiful mansion. The art is tastefully displayed and carefully selected. I am a member of the museum. It is well worth the cost. The Native American exhibit is truly amazing. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

What a beautiful facility. We went for the last day of the Dorothea Lange’s America exhibition which brings history to life. A great place to visit even in the winter. Do not miss the cafe for lunch the food is spectacular. The bookstore provides history books not found elsewhere. Staff helpful and friendly. Cannot think of a single negative.

This museum was a very surprising find for us. It has some very interesting art and historic American heritage items. It is a beautiful home in and of itself. It is by the lake so it is in a great setting. I highly recommend a visit.

I like to visit the Fenimore Art Museum often as each year there are interesting visiting exhibits, displayed beautifully in a beautiful setting. This year there was a Winslow Homer exhibit, another exhibit of Dorothea Lange photographs, Tantillo's paintings of scenes in New York history, an Adirondack artist, costumes from Madame Butterfly and Japanese tiles. There are also wonderful permanent exhibits of folk art and Native American art. There are amazing figures of the founding fathers made from life masks. The Museum lawn overlooks Otsego Lake. There is a small cafe, which offers tasty food that can be eaten outdoors in nice weather. This latest visit was a reception for the Christmas season so the museum was decorated beautifully for the Christmas season, with many trees and garlands. The highlight was a woman who portrayed Dorothea Lange and told of her life. She made her come to life and her performance was riveting. It was a very special evening.

This museum is exceptional, not only for the location on the edges of glimmerglass, but the quality of the exhibits and extensive native american components. Grandma Moses, and more modern exhibits as well as folk art make this a must see. Combining with the farmers museum and baseball hall of fame makes this a trifecta of great attractions in close proximity.

We went to see the Dorothea Lange exhibit only and wound up seeing everything! A lovely museum. Wonderful staff, great layout. A re-enactor of Dorothea Lange did a walking tour of her exhibit, it was amazing. She did a great job. This whole museum is a class act - highly recommend visiting!

We went to the Fenimore Museum to see the Dorthea Lange exhibit. But there was much more! The Lange exhibit included other photographers from the Farm Security Administration from during the Great Depression. The descriptions and explanations accompanying the photo graphs and ll of the exhibits were very good. The spacing of the photos and other exhibits was adequate such that you can read everything without having other people hanging over you or having to hang over other people. The layout of the museum provided enough space to be able to enjoy all of the exhibits. But there was more, much more. The exhibit entitled American Indian art was fantastic. It included exhibits from all of the First Nations of North America! There were other exhibits which encouraged us to spend much, much more time than planned but it was worth it!!! These exhibits are there until the end of the year. If you can visit before they are over.

What you expect is a great view of Otsego Lake, a lovely terrace eatery, and some information on the Cooper and Fenimore families. What you don't expect are outstanding visiting exhibits (Dorothea Lange and other Depression era photographers in November 2014), fine rotating exhibits ("Memory Paintings"), a Grandma Moses original, and one of the finest collections of Native American/First Nations artifacts I've seen in many years. The Farmers' Museum across the road was closed for the season, so we didn't get to visit the Cardiff Giant, the 1869 "petrified man" hoax now on display there, but this was a wonderful visit just a mile or two outside Cooperstown village.

The building is very well laid out. It is spacious and not overwhelming. I am not an American and was able to breeze through the exhibits that represented more of their history. I did enjoy the art.

First time here and was really taken by the wonderful Americana and Indian Art. Especially enjoyed Dorothea Lange's America. Beautiful photographs, The Folk Art exhibit was very good. Loved the room dedicated to the James Fenimore Cooper and family with letters, artifacts and paintings.

We spent over 4 solid hours here and could have spent more. The exhibits were truly of the upmost quality. The building itself is in top notch condition too. We enjoyed tis extremely.

Was not sure what to expect, but the museum has a magnificent collection. The Native American pieces are fabulous, and the folk art and other collections are also top notch. Can highly recommend spending some time here when visiting Cooperstown.

What an amazing museum and grounds. I couldn't have been more impressed with its offerings. Well worth the trip to Cooperstown. It may even surpass the Hall of Fame.

We visited the Fenimore Art Museum last week, and were very impressed by the quality and variety of the exhibits. The folk art collection is lovely, and the temporary exhibits are really high caliber. We were able to enjoy the photography of Dorothea Lange, an exhibit of Madam Butterfly at the Met (featuring glorious costumes and multimedia of the stars who wore them), and my favorite, the art of LF Tantillo. It's a rare treat to discover an artist unknown to you that resonates with you, and his paintings of primitive New York are stunning. After touring the exhibits, grab a cup of tea in the cafe and go enjoy the museum grounds, which back up to Otsego Lake. The fall foliage is breathtaking right now! Tip: Visit the Farmer's Museum the same day for an additional dose of Cooperstown History. There's so much to do in town in addition to the Hall of Fame!
