The Historic District of Eufaula survived the ravages of the Civil War and has excellent examples of homes and buildings from the 1800/s. The Shorter Mansion serves as both a museum (especially the second floor) and venue for events such as weddings. We were there when the house was still decorated for Christmas and had tables set up from a prior event. Still, the self-tour provided a great overview of Eufaula and the inhabitants of the home. Anyone interested in historic preservation or life in the years surrounding the Civil War should visit this classical revival home.Allow one-two hours. There is a reasonable fee. Check the web site for hours.

Pam Snead was our host and she gave us the complete history of this beautiful mansion. So many antiques and period dresses etc. Beautifully decorated for Christmas as well.

Really enjoyed the tour of the mansion. Our tour guide Betty was extremely knowledge and made our experience very memorable. The downtown area was charming.

What Eufaula is famous for. Southern Architecture. Antebellum South. It's a trip back in time. All the houses on both sides date back to late 1700's or early 1800's.

Visited July 26, 2014.The guide was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the old photos and the beauty of the old house. Perhaps it was our expectations but it didn't deliver the Southern Charm that we were hoping to find. I mistakenly expected to see Spanish moss gardens, elegant two story windows. grand furnishings, servant quarters and the like. That just isn't what this place has to offer. It offers exactly this: a beautiful old preserved mansion in a heritage part of Eufaula with a lovely staff of guides that make you feel welcome.

Shorter Mansion tour was the epitome of southern charm. Our tour guide was welcoming, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Very enjoyable tour of a lovely, gracious old home.

My husband and I gave up on staying in overcrowded and rowdy PC and found Eufaula instead! We started with a tour of the Shorter Mansion and loved it! The house and neighborhood are both unique and incredible. Ms Sarah was such a lovely guide and so friendly and knowledgeable. We are planning a return trip with our older children for the historic homes tour next spring. What a hidden jewel Eufaula is! I hope Eufaula will continue to love on their treasured historic community, they have done an admirable job saving history there.... it could never be replaced!

Definitely worth seeing for $5! This home as many lovely rooms to tour, a beautiful balcony and back yard. Plenty of parking in back. We walked around the neighborhood a little and saw several other older homes.

Parking is along the side street or in the back behind the big pavillion. Beware the apartments, don't park on their side of the street.$5 to get in and you can take a self guided tour...I'm sure the docent would have given me one but I wanted to go by myself. The house has beautiful furnishings and in most rooms you can sit on some....those you can't sit on are clearly marked. Lots of artifacts on Alabama history and the vintage clothing is really interesting to see. There are two bathrooms....one on each floor, the 2nd floor master bedroom is used for wedding parties.

Nothing to dislike about a tour here. Guided tours provide valuable information about the home's history and Eufaula. Just beautiful inside.

We enjoyed a lunch at the Shorter Mansion a couple of years ago as part of a tour group. The experience was excellent. Because it has been awhile, I can't remember the menu specifically--but the memory of how every morsel was so delicious still dances in my head. The service was outstanding, the ambiance "so southern", and we certainly had more than enough to eat. I highly recommend a stop here when you come to Eufala. The home itself is just beautiful with a great history.

I get to enjoy this view every day. It offers tours every day by local people. A great place for a wedding or party.

Walking into the Shorter Mansion is a trip back in time, the days when women wore petticoats and men wore suits. I could feel the history. Walking on hardwood floors that were hand crafted without electricity was something special. I would love to be a part of the annual pilgrimage, that must be a great tour.

Going through the Shorter Mansion feeling a ghostly presence. Then at the end of the tour I saw a picture with a ghost in the corner and a girl with half a face... So I think if you go in there try to feel for some paranormal activities

We enjoyed seeing the shorter mansion along with 18 other beautiful homes on the Eufaula Pilgrimage. The history behind this home is interesting and really makes the stop on the way to panama city worth while
