Yum, Yum, Yum!! You have to make a stop here if you are in the area and sample all the goodies. Then take some home with you!

The best part of this visit is getting to try everything!! Watermelon, hot pepper jelly, mayhaw, pralines etc. ladies were so accommodating a bit pricey but good!

I'm surprised we are not still there munching away on all the great treats. It was fun to browse and sample, all the while chatting with the ladies in the kitchen and watching what they were making.

Punta Clara is in an old house and is run by family members of the person who built the house. It is as interesting to visit the house as it is to pick out your favorite candy. They also make cakes and jams/jellies. I love taking visitors there and they always enjoy it too.

My friend was taking me to my first visit to Gulf Shores and insisted we stop at this place. Candy? Really?? The beach was calling! I am so glad her sweet teeth was tapping. This is a great candy/salsa/jelly/other store that happens to be run by the grandchildren of the original founder in the actual family home built in 1897. What a find! The candy (and all kinds of it and all delicious---if you don't know what to get, just try a sample) is yummy (pralines are the best kind---light, sweet, and delicious) and reasonable priced. So are the salsas, cheese straws (melt in your mouth), jellies, and other delicacies that are sold here. The candies are made on-site, and the praline production was happening as we were visiting. Not high-tech at all: one lady stirring a huge pot of sugar mixture with pecan halves and then ladling them on the table to set. Fun to watch through the open dutch door. The house was built in 1897 by Miss Dottie's family, and the pictures and articles in the hallway are fascinating. You can enjoy them as you shop through the bits and pieces of old glassware, tinware, and whatnot that are the remainder of the antique business that the family used to run here. The family antiques have been distributed to family (we were told before a hurricane decided to distribute them otherwise) and Miss Dottie, the candy business founder, has passed on, but her house and her business are still being taken care of by her grandchildren.www.puntaclara.com

Thanks for the great review, Stehanie. Glad you found the baseball field and came back to the candy kitchen later. We would love to see you again on your next trip into the area.

This is a candy factory and store in an old house on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, near Fairhope. The smells from the kitchen are luscious and the pralines to die for. Definitely worth a visit!

Thank you for your honest review. As much as we hate to hear things like this, we really appreciate your input. We want our staff to welcome people into our store as we would welcome people into our homes, and they have been reminded of how this is just as important as the quality of our candies, etc. Thanks for being so gracious, and please come back anytime. I'm sure your next visit will be greeted with the Southern hospitality you're used to. So glad you like the candy.
