Gay Head is a great place to go to on MV. The village is very nice and there are spectacular views. I would definitely go here if you are on the Vineyard.

Caveat, careful where you take your kids. My wife and I walked down to the beach from the lighthouse above. We wondered the beach, she looking for shells, and I taking photos of the walls of the cliffs. The clay walls reminded us of the formations we saw in our trips to the Southwest. As I wandered aimlessly snapping away, I happened to look up ahead of me and there were four nude people there. I took note of my surroundings and found there were quite a few there sunning themselves sans clothes. Here I was with my camera just snapping away at the cliffs. I stopped taking pictures and reversed course to the clothed side of the beach. Needless to say, we never got to the cliffs by the beach.

This place is stunning. The cliffs, the lighthouse and the small shops in this area are well worth the bus trip here. Tip: the public bathroom costs 50 cents per person!

The gay head cliffs are completely worth the drive across the island. The view is absolutely stunning. This is also my favorite beach on the island! It is about a 10 minute walk to the beach, but worth it. Strolling down the beach looking at the cliffs and swimming in the calm water is heaven!I highly recommend visiting if you travel to the island!!!

first thing to know public transportation will take you there as well as many other beaches and attractions it is 7 dollars and you can ride the bus all day ... this trip will take about an hour but is worth the trip! there are a few shops take out food as well as a an outdoor cafe .the views of the cliffs from there as well as the lighthouse are beautiful . It will cost 5 dollars to climb the lighthouse and the view from both inside the lens room and outside are breathtaking also the staff could not be nicer . they do have bathrooms but charge 50 cents to use them . the real attraction for me was the beach . it is about a 10 min or so walk that will take you to a beach along the cliffs.now this is the second thing to know when you first come on to the beach it is a family friendly beach but farther down you will see a yellow float in the rocks ... from that point on it is a clothing optional beach .( I was clothed lol ... just fyi ) I was ok with it if they were but I would just stay to the family area if you have children or do not want that experience and you will be fine .... you would never know !! the beach is rocky with pockets of sand where you can settle in and the cliffs provide a bonus .... a beautiful backdrop for a day the beach even if you tried I do not think you would get a bad picture !! the lighthouse and viewing area are close together along with the food and drinks then plan your time at the beach to get onto the bus for you next adventure or spend the day !!

The view of the Gay Cliffs and the lighthouse are wonderful, well worth the tour to see this. There are several small shops down the hill, and we just did not have enough time on the tour to look as much as we would have liked. We did buy Vineyard hoodies for $25.00, and that is a bargain for such a traveled area. There are also a couple of little stands where you can get food.

At the southwestern tip of Martha's Vineyard (Aquinnah), there is a lighthouse at Gay Head with lovely views, as well as another "point" a short walk further to see still more beach and ocean views. This is an area of Native American land, so there are a few shops and small food joints (and toilets for 50 cents!) that help support them. Most of Martha's Vineyard is much less busy, commercial, or crowded than the rest of Cape Cod, and Aquinnah is even quieter.

Boston ,in itself,is a fantastic trip to take.I strongly advise you to buy a Boston Go Card.So many attractions for one price.Whale watching ( and we did see 5 ),a boat tour and best of all,the ferry to and from,Marthas Vineyard, were only 3 of the 51 attractions included in our 3 day Go Card. When on the island be sure to take the bus tour.Very informative, the driver was a delight and very comical, and the trip took in the whole island..fantastic.There was a short stop over at Gay Head,to stretch, grab a drink or something to eat and do a bit of exploring.Once back ,to where you would catch the ferry back, there are numerous shops, resturants and lots to see by foot.We absolutely loved the whole city and plan to go back.

Gay Head was one of the highlights of our trip. The cliffs are beautiful, and the lighthouse grabbed my heart. Walking the beach was fun, and I found lots of gorgeous wampum, better than we have on Cape Cod.

Gay Head Lighthouse stands precariously close to the edge of the cliff, the clay erodes off that cliff and into the ocean--and both symbolize the tenacious hold the Wampanoag Indians have on the land and the culture of Aquinnah. Martha's Vineyard offers loads of great experiences, and a trip up to Gay Head will open a whole new dimension. While you're there, grab a lobster roll to round out the afternoon!

Other then the cliffs, beach and the light house, which was closed, there is nothing much to do here. We took the #5 bus out to view the cliffs and the light house. That was all accomplished in less than 15 minuets. The bus operates hourly. The only other thing there was to do was to fork over 50 cents to use the pubic bathroom. The light house is only open on weekends. So plan accordingly.

Knowing that we were going to MV, we knew that we had to visit Gay Head. It was a must see…We also knew that it was off-season so none of the shops will be open but that worked out in our favor. We had the whole area to ourselves. The view was awesome; the cliffs were simply picturesque to say the least. We took our time and took in the wonderful view. We went during the offseason.

it was a dark and stormy day and it was still wonderful! To be at the scene of Carly Simons famous concert on the 'yard was terrific. The area was well kept and free from rubbish etc.

You haven't "seen" the Cliffs until you've walked along the beach around the point. The walk along Moshups Beach (named after the Wamponag being who created the island) is truly breathtaking. The shapes of the cliffs are wonderful and the colors of the clay are astounding. The walk is easiest at low tide, so Google the tides and plan your visit. There are many little coves and lots of very sandy beaches that are perfect for swimming and sunning. Please realize that the clay cliffs are protected. This is a sacred place for the local tribe and the clay is very sacred to them. Basic respect dictates that you do not touch the clay. Painting yourself with it it is akin to visiting Notre Dame and blowing out the candles or splashing in the holy water. We've spent a week on the Vineyard for the past 8 years and this is one of our must do's each time.
