Esperanza people were SOOO friendly and helpful. Isabella II was a little scarier. I definitely felt like an invader. Although I loved Sea Glass Beach, and you have to go to Isabel II to get there. The beach isn't that pretty, and the snorkeling was mediocre. If you feel like hunting through the rocks, the sea glass hunting was fun. Our backpack was investigated by stray dogs several times. And it was fun watching the iguanas and pet cat have a staring contest.

ISabel II is the main shopping area and worth a look see. It has the Fort, the Museum, the ferry and all the services, Post Office , Bank city hall, etc.

Isabel will grow on you. We encountered it late at night after a very exhausting trip from San Juan via ferry from Fajardo. The dock area is like any other small port: bars, snack vendors, people scurrying everywhere. Fortunately we were rescued by one of the van taxi drivers making his last run of the evening and he took us to our rental car, all the while dodging the crazy drivers, horses and bike riders without lights, and giving us his version of the town tour to boot! Throughout our stay in Esperanza (Caribbean side) we would go over to Isabel for groceries, cash, and just to explore. It has everything, so there are ragged areas just like anywhere on the mainland, but there are also some very charming spots and wonderful views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean. It's perfect.

Very cute town. Several cute shops to visit and very nice locals. It was very convenient to walk around and the cabs to the other side of the island were really inexpensive. Sea glass beach is within walking distance to the town too!

I have read reviews of this town and many folks who stayed there loved it. For us, we really could not find anything to do there on a rainy afternoon. The town is kind of rundown and many shops were closed on Monday. I would not go to Vieques for more than 4 days to see all of the beaches but I really thought there was not much else there to do besides that and biobay. I think it would be hard to vacation there with children. We stayed in a nice little place but had done all of the relaxing I needed in 4 days but that may just be me. Also you really must have a car or jeep to get around to the beautiful beaches there.

There has been no new development for many many years so going to Isabel is like going back in time. In Isabel there are no multi story hotels and only areas that the tourists go. when you visit Isabel you are going tot he same places the locals go. It is best to know your Puerto Rican Spanish.

Stayed in the town for 5 days. Loved it. Safe anytime. Great bars, super market, excellent restaurants, low key restaurants, local bars..... Get a shave and haircut on the main street. Great, old fashioned, straight razor shave. Loved this little town. Stay at the Casa de Amistad, which is a wonderful guest house. Everything on Vieques is a 10 minute drive away.

Very quaint and laid-back town. Only advice is don't go on Tuesday. Apparently Tuesday, particularly when the weather is nice, is the day that many of the shops and restaurants close. We did find a couple of cools shops, enjoyed the very low key feel of the town on a slow day and spent many hours at Al's..good visit.

We loved Bieques Bistro - excellent rice and beans -the best on the island - and cheap prices. I sighed while I ate them and my husband felt the same way. What a great town, wild horse trotting through, friendly people, and a lovely gourmet shop with delicious packaged foods.

We have traveled to many of the Caribbean Islands to tourist areas, and Isabel Segunda is very unique for the "capital city" in our experience. It is a "local's" town--very few souvenir shops and surprisingly few restaurants. On Sunday night outside one of the local bars, we counted 12 saddled horses tied up, with riders in the bar, enjoying each other's company. The whole center of town area is about 7 square blocks and many of those are primarily residential. To of the best restaurants (Coqui Fire and Taverna) are closed on weekends, believe it or not...Near the ferry port there are a couple of restaurants and shops. The town square is just that, a square. It's very pleasant but surprisingly there are no restaurants bordering it--instead there is a church and school. It's a pleasant walk, but little to see.The fort and museum are worth a short visit (see my other reviews). If you are looking for "laid back" Isabel Segunda is perfect. Lots of opportunities for motivated entrepreneurs here, but I suspect the locals and ex-pats love it the way it is!

Very friendly people. Really enjoyed this town. You are not treated like a tourist, you are treated like you lived there your whole life. If you want to stay somewhere that doesn't feel touristy. This is the place

This little community was so laid back and friendly. We loved that it is so casual and unassuming! You can do your own thing and no body cares! Great places to watch the sunset. Great food choices. There is no rush in Isabel II - hey you are on "island time" here. So leave your hurry scurry life (and attitudes) at home!

This little business district of the island is laid back and charming, without feeling touristy. After a few days here, you begin to feel like a local. It has shops, supermarket, convenience stores, bakery and restaurants, along with the post office, bank and ferry terminal.

My wife and I stayed in Isabel II for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. The town has the great quaint local feel we were looking for and plenty of amazing restaurants, food trucks, and art galleries to keep us busy. Only a $10-15 taxi from the touristy south side of the island, we will definitely make sure to stay here again.
