Visited Angelokastro early September from our base in Paleokastritsa. Unusually for the time of year weather was unpredictable all week and we visited the castle the day after a massive thunderstorm - and on the eve of another! We walked the trail from paleokastritsa known locally as the donkey track. Most people visiting seemed to have been brought in on coaches, but thoroughly recommend the walk to the top as a great way to take in the sites and amazing viewpoints as you ascend. The castle itself was a treat! Good value and nicely understated, loved the hidden chapel and (original?) paintings on the walls. views from the top of the ruin itself were amazing - specially with storm clouds rolling in. The nearby shops and tavernas were fun too, but there's not much else around so probably not worth a long journey to get to. Perfect for people staying in the nearby resorts for a day away from the beaches (and fun to see all of them from one place)

This for us, was the highlight of our trip. A long, windy drive but absolutely worth it. The castle itself is dramatically perched on the cliff edge. There are lots of steps and very uneven ground. It is in no way suitable for wheelchairs/buggies. The views from the top are absolutely stunning. I've travelled a lot and seen some very cool things but the view from here still had the power to leave me speechless and gazing in awe. Well worth the climb!

The old medieval ruins of ANGELOKASTRO give Paleokastritsa situated to the east its name meaning :OLD CASTLE.From Agios Petros and AMPELAKI BAY the ruins can be seen high up the cliff. The hike up from Paleokastritsa is via a detour. It steep path are excellent hiking area.I enjoyed the walk from Angelokastro to Afionas and beautiful Porto Timone.

It is something of a climb to reach the castle ruins ! You need good shoes and if it is hot weather, take a bottle of water - there is nowhere at the top to buy refreshments.

Cost is 2 euros each (noticed the ticket office had closed when we came down at 6pm), would easily pay more though for the stunning gorgeous views at the top. Can see whole of Paleokastritsa bay and the monastery. Climb up to the castle entrance is fine, but not the easiest to walk around as not many defined steps, just lots of stones and rocks to clamber over and climb up. Well worth the effort though

Besides it's a fun drive to get there the views are amazing! It's a 10 minutes climb from the parking lot and the castle itself is not a big thing. You go up there for the view and it's worth the time and the energy!

Parking mainly on the roadHaving driven up the steep slopes there was only a short walk to the "castle".It was possible to clamber over the castle walls but could be quite dangerous for unsupervised children.Sign boards explained the history in English. There was a water tap and pleasant shade for eating a pack lunch. Also a refuse bin for rubbish. The best bit was the superb views of Paleokastratis though

We rented a car, so we were able to drive ourselves up to Angelokastro, and what an experience. Tiny/narrow roads leading up and lots of traffic jams. It was worth it, though. Absolutely beautiful views from the top. It was hard to make anything out of most of the ruins, but it was worth the view. It is a bit of a hike up, so may not be doable for some people.

I went with a 7 year old and a granny in september. the granny didnt climb to the top, so she sat in a restaurant in the parking lot ( with delicious food) whilst we climbed. It was soooo worth it.... Amazing views, 1000ft up, not many people, and youre left to your own devises.... No-one watching you up there. If you visited paleokastritsa then its worth the 25 min drive up the mountain... Especially if youre after the perfect photo shots. Cheap entry 2€! Restaurant doesnt take c/cards... I recommend this place

I visited this place a couple of years ago, it is a must visit if you are staying in Corfu. From the south it is probably quite a drive nut the views and the building are well worth it.

This is an out of the way site that has great views. It was a medieval fort that was destroyed 3-4 centuries ago. It is a long walk to get to the top but the views are great. Also the road to the top is very nice because you can see gorgeous wild flowers.

It's a bit of a walk up and if you're coming by car you have to take a few turns, but it's absolutely worth it. The views are awesome, even when there's very little left of the original castle, you can still imagine why the spot was so great.

We recently visited Angelokastro having seen it recommended in a local leaflet! It's near to Paleokastritsa beach which seems to get pretty busy so I was expecting it to be the same here...it wasn't the case, perhaps due to the windy hillside road and limited parking?! The fortress itself is reached by a 5-10 minute walk up the hill which was tricky in places, but it is certainly worth the effort! Once you get to the fortress, there it's good for archaeologists and history enthusiasts - you can see why it was such a stronghold! The most remarkable aspect of Angelokastro is the views it offers - they are really spectacular and are worth the climb and drive! The views of Paleokastritsa and the coastline were superb! On a clear day you can see a lot from the top and it was a great experience! Also, there was a cafe at the bottom which did good food and also had lovely views! Overall, worth a visit!

THis was a surprise. The castle is nothing much to look at. You have to clime quite a lot of steep stairs to get to the top. Once at the top there is not much left of the castle but right at the top on the side you get a very clear understanding of why this castle was built and fought over. The views of 180 degrees across the sea says it all. Went near sunset and so the whole ambience was really good. Worth a visit. We were not charged an entrance fee. I thought the view was the best in Corfu.
