What I find very smart here is that on one place you have couple of interesting museum exsibitons, war museum is something that is more interesting to boys and fashion museum will be more interesting for ladies. Here everybody can find something interesting for himself.

We visited Gorizia because it is mentioned in Hemingway's book, and we read it had a WWI Museum. The Museum of the Great War was superb. Sometimes these local museums are too much or too little, or too academic or too fascile. The Museum of the Great War is informative, entertaining, and a perfect stop for Hemingway readers.

It is a great place! Dominates above P.Vittoria and it is interesting to climbe up to it.There were few exhibitions and all were great! Belle Epoque military uniforms and in particular Charlstone area dresses. Really must see when in this area. Staff is more than polite. After asking where are you from they explain everything you need to know and are really at your disposal. Whole are is so charming.Tip: if you buy ticket in downtown museum it is still valid for this one. In total, really cheap option for at least two great hours

My review concerns only the "War Museum", because I've only seen this.Although in my opinion it is not up - for museological quality - the similar Museums I've seen in Rovereto (Italy) and in Kobarid (Slovenia), it is still decent, and allows an adequate idea of some of the tragic aspects of World War I.On this basis, a feature of the museum is (understandably) the particular attention to the role of Gorizia into the war. Gorizia was then Austrian city, then one of the objectives of the Italian attacks. Fought by opposing armies, it was largely destroyed and almost deserted by its inhabitants (during the most dramatic events, only 3000 people remained in the city).Another distinguishing feature of the museum is the rare documentation (photographic or otherwise) on the attack in Sarajevo, which gave origin (1914) to the World War I, and on the "double funeral" (in Trieste and Vienna) of the victims, the Austrian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife.

Step back in time. A very well rebuilt castle/museum. Walk the stone walls, see an old prison cell, interesting exhibits. My 9 year old loved it.

Beautiful,well-kept castle. Well worth the hike even on a hot summer's day. The best thing about Gorizia. Unfortunately the choice of restoring the old 'borgo' in the middle of the tourist season did not make for a good view as everything was practically closed except the museum which is well-looked after and very interesting.

took a break from work at the Festival to check out the Castle + Museum: well worth a visit. A short (but steep) walk up from the centre of town; had to negotiate quite a few building works in and around the castle (not very well set up or signposted); but, apart from the impressive views across the countryside from the top, the castle has several diverse attractions: an interesting museum of the 1st world war, which describes the (often neglected) Italian-Austian/German front in some detail, with plenty of guns, uniforms, letters, pictures, reconstructions, etc; while the main part of the castle, a little higher up, is impressive in itself, and contains both historical information (an awful lot of petty dynastic quarrels!) and an excellent exhibit of (reconstructed) Renaissance musical instruments, with musical accompaniment. Worth the entrance fee.

Well worth the walk up the hill from the town of Gorizia, just for the view of the town and across the hills to Slovenia and to enjoy the medieval feel of the pentagon-shaped castle. The palatine chapel, Saint Bartholomew, houses canvases of the Venetian school of painting and traces of Renaissance frescoes. There is also a Museum of the Goritian Middle Ages. The Castle has a history stretching from an early mention in 1001, through the Hapsburgs and the Venitians, demolished in WW1, rebuilt in 1934-37, and the garden was used by the Nazis WW2 for the execution of prisoners. My uncle Louis (Luigi) was one of many men in the town who was executed in the Foibe Massacres, so it was poignant to look across the hills and wonder what the people of Gorizia lived through during the horrors of two world wars. For travellers with cars, there is ample car parking at the top of the hill and it's an easy walk around the Castle perimeter.

Il borgo con le sue case caratteristiche, la visione delle valli dell'Isonzo e delle vallate della ex jugslavia , il castello pieno di oggetti storici a costo irrisorio meritano di essere visitati, da bambino ci venivo a giocare e passeggiare.

Piccolo castello ma estremamente bello, domina dall'alto della collina su Gorizia, lo visito una due volte l'anno solo perché emana una energia antica, consiglio a tutti di visitarlo.

Incredibile come un'attrazione del genere abbia un biglietto di ingresso dal prezzo così irrisorio ( 3 euro) Si visitano una moltitudine di stanze ,pulite, ben illuminate, ben allestite, dalle prigioni con una mostra di armi e armature, alla sala da pranzo e alla cucina, si passa poi ai piani nobili con il grande salone, la sala della musica che ospita una bellissima mostra di strumenti musicali , l'osservatorio del re, la cappella e la sala didattica con plastici e pannelli in cui si spiega la storia della contea di Gorizia nel corso dei secoli. Impressionante il camminamento lungo i merli e molto bello il panorama. All'ingresso viene fornito un foglio con alcune spiegazioni, la ragazza della biglietteria molto disponibile spiega il percorso che può sembrare inizialmente complicato, ma poi è molto semplice perchè ben segnalato da cartelli. Non guasterebbe qualche didascalia in più su opere esposte, e stanze in cui ci troviamo; e il divieto di fare foto ovunque è un pò esagerato, ma tutto sommato merita assolutamente una visita!

Viene da chiedersi perché non faccia un milione di presenze l'anno. Un posto così in Francia arriverebbe tranquillamente a quella cifra e l'ingresso costerebbe il triplo . Qui purtroppo non è né promosso né sufficientemente valorizzato. Castello ricostruito infedelmente (ma non è una nota negativa) dopo la prima guerra mondiale, bellissimo da fuori, ancor meglio da dentro, davvero suggestivo. Tutto ben curato. Consiglio di visitarlo a tutti, vale un viaggio. Poi Gorizia e dintorni valgono ben una visita anche overnight per chi arriva da lontano.

Museo molto ben tenuto e personale cortesissimo. Non si comprende il permanere di un divieto così cretino come quello di scattare delle foto quando questo è permesso persino presso istituzioni di altissimo livello come ad esempio la pinacoteca di Vienna. Detto questo una visita senz'altro da consigliare.

Il borgo, situato sul colle che sovrasta Gorizia vale la visita anche soltanto per l'aspetto urbanistico e il panorama. Il panorama assume ancora più valore per gli amanti della Storia: si vede quasi tutto il fronte del basso isonzo (1 g.m.). Poi, se volete, c'è il museo, piccolo ma gradevole da vedere, e il castello.Il borgo è gratis, il resto si paga (il giusto).parcheggio possibile, ma non enorme.Consiglio di lasciare l'auto in centro e salire a piedi, per scoprire Gorizia antica: ne vale la pena.

Bello il castello ed interessante quanto sorprendente il museo.I bambini si sono divertiti un sacco!
