Whereas it is true that this is yet one more museum with an overload of pottery, the Museum is a must because it houses the Classical bronzes discovered at Punta del Serrone. These works of art were created over the course of many centuries and were being transported by a ship before it was wrecked. Were these bronzes collected for display in one or more Roman Imperial buildings or were they simply collected to be melted down for their metal content? Seven hundred (yes) fragments have been inventoried and two hundred have been identified. Given the current state of the Bronzes of Riace which are behind glass and lying on their backs, the Bronzes of Brindisi, as these are known, are well displayed, some behind glass but many more are out in the open where you can obtain an up-close and personal look. The experience of being face to face with these masterpieces of the past is rarely duplicated elsewhere. Awesome!

We arrived in Brindisi a few hours early for our train to Rome, so decided to check out the Archelogico Museum. We hadn't paid very good attention to the time, and paid our admission and went in. As we were looking at the antiquities, one of the staff members began paying close attention to us and following us around, which made us realize we had infringed on Siesta time for closing. He had almost no english, our Italian was limited, but what we ended up discovering was that he was willing to ensure that we had the chance to see all areas of the museum that we might want to see, even though the rest of it was closed up and the other's had gone for lunch. He let me take all the pictures I might want, and didn't to anything that might rush us along. It was a wonderful experience, and an eye opener to see how old our human history is recorded here in this part of the world, as our recorded history is so young in Canada.

A very beautiful museum ! Entrance free, parking around the corner . So no excuse to skip it. For us the most interesting period is the one of the Romans around year zero . :-) A small selection of marble heads and torso's . A small collection of bronze parts of statues found in the sea nearby. Please go visit. Ciaoo

Just next to the Cathedral, this lovely museum has a peaceful and cool court where you can just sit and relax. Inside the museum lovers of roman and greek art will have time to spend...

Luogo nevralgico della storia cittadina, conserva ed espone in modo egregio parte del ricchissimo patrimonio archeologico territoriale. Notevolissime la sezione dell'età romana, quella antiquaria con vasi e trozzelle messapiche, ma soprattutto i magnifici Bronzi di Punta del Serrone, scoperti nel 1992 a circa 400 metri dalla riva e a 16 metri. E' aperto da martedì a sabato dalle ore 9.00 alle ore 13.00, il martedì pomeriggio dalle ore 15.00 alle ore 19.00, la domenica dalle ore 10.00 alle ore 13.00 e dalle ore 17.00 alle ore 20.00. Bisogna informarsi perchè può essere aperto anche la sera fino alle 21.00. Bellissimo e da visitare assolutamente !

Il Mapri è davvero uno scrigno di cultura e storia nel centro della città. Invito tutti a visitarlo, soprattutto tutti quei brindisini che probabilmente non lo conoscono neanche. C'è tanto da vedere e la visita inizia addirittura dalla preistoria!!!!

Giornata con ingresso libero al museo però non illuminato per mancanza di corrente elettrica (molto strano! forse per coroompensare il mancato incasso)

A voir si vous êtes amateur surtout que c'est très bien "mis en scène" ; les musées Italiens font un gros effort didactique ces derniers temps ! Outre le matériel classique de la Grande Grèce, vaut le détour pour les bronzes grecs ( même morcelés ) trouvé lors de fouilles sous-marines en 1992 !

Davvero un bel posto, ricco di storia. Diventato ancora più bello dopo i lavori di restauro di qualche anno fa. I bronzi ritrovati sono un must....

Personale scortese e poco disponibile. L'impressione era: dovete proprio visitarlo? Eravamo soli in tutto il museo e una persona ci ha seguito per tutto il percorso, parlando a lungo al cellulare, al fine di farci uscire il prima possibile e chiudere in anticipo il museo. L'esposizione è ricca, ma come spesso accade mal presentata.

In giro per la cittadina di brindisi a ridosso del centro storico abbiamo scoperto l'esistenza di questo museo ed un esso tante belle cose rimediate tra terra e mare. Ben tenuto. Vale la pena di esser visitato.

Stupendo museo archeologico situato in pieno centro storico di Brindisi (accanto il Duomo).Vari reperti archeologici ritrovati in città e zone vicine. Forse troppo poco pubblicizzato. Luogo da non visitare assolutamente se si viene a Brindisi.

Accanto al Duomo.Raccoglie reperti archeologici dell'area brindisina che vanno dalla preistoria, al periodo messapico, a quello romano - bizantino. Buono il corredo didattico. Solerte e gentile il personale di custodia.Una lieta sorpresa.

ci sono stato tante volte da vedere i bronzi di punta del Serrone, la statuaria, l'archeologia subacquea e soprattutto la statua dell'Ercole Brindisino uno dei simboli della citta' di Brindisi.
