Wonderful winter sunset, amazing scenary and panorama, best place in the city, you will need a car to get there

Went there in December. the weather will dictate the view you get when there. If the cloud breaks and you get a peek at the vista, its not bad. Had a coffee (to help warm us up), service is a little slow but prices were not too bad.

If the weather is good you will admire very nice panorama on the top of Jested. I was here several times and I was never fed up. I like marvellous panorama of Krkonoše and Jizerské hory at the Polish border or "islands of mountains" of Lužické hory at German border. Down the slope you can find city of Liberec. I don't like archtecture of the hotel on the top. But people find it's a pleasure to stay there. Beer is good in the restaurant. During summer there is the small bar with wooden benches. I prefer to sit here if weather permitting. You can get to the top by the cable car but I definitely prefer to climb up. You can find many tracks and paths. There are a lot of downhills here. So it must be great place to come during winter.

Jested is easily accessible. You can walk, drive (very limited parking spaces at the top) or take the cable car from Horni Hanychov to the top. The cable car elevates you by 400 m within 4 minutes and goes every half an hour from 8:00 till 18:00 in winter and 19:00 in summer (with exception of 12:30 run - lunch break) it costs 120 Kc return or 75 Kc one way).I believe there are two strong reasons to go up to Jested. The first one is the amazing 360 view. As Jested is more or less just a stand alone mountain (1012 m high) the view is unobstructed and during a clear day you can see tens of kilometres in the distance. The highest Czech mountain Snezka (1603 m) in Krkonose mountains is perfectly visible and so are some other landmarks like Bezdez castle, Jizerske hory....The second reason is the unique architecture of the building on the top of Jested serving as a combination of restaurant, hotel and TV tower. It was built in 1966-73 based on design of architect Karel Hubacek. His unique modern design of hyberbolic paraboloid shape obtained several awards including the reputable August Perret award.The restaurant is OK, but the public areas should be better maintained.

If you are in the area you must visit here. It's great, but it didn't "blow me away" or anything. It's kind of like Mt. Washington but not quite as grand (note that I did not go in the restaurant). There is free parking up at the summit but that is pretty full so it is about $5 USD to park a little farther down and walk up.

fast food restaurant. nothing special. good pivo. good pivo everywhere though. great view. fun on a sunny day. hike up or take the chair lift.

I came first in the summer, there are various levels of car park choices, some are free but others you pay, the walk to the tower is ok, but look out for cars..The view from the top was awesome, you can see for miles / kilometres and the Alien sculpture was great too..Top place especially if you like your architecture, I can only imagine the hotel would be a stupendous place to stay.. Next time!

Great views from the top, nice hiking or a gondola ride up, and a visionary design that changed Jested mountain forever.

A beautiful piece of architecture and a good idea for a trip. I really hope they renovate it soon, but even the "retro" experience is very enjoyable.

Very nice and what I like about this place it is unique. If you are lucky beautiful view. Nice restaurant. From the city center you can get there by tram num. 2 and num. 3 final stop. Also it is possible to go up by car.

From distance it seems like very odd thing there. The closer you are, the odder it becomes. But when you come to it, it suddenly becomes more normal building with just a bit odd shape ;-) Anyway, I am not an architect or architecture enthusiast; therefore I cannot give you proper description what you may find here, but I can say you will remember it. Interior is a different story. In my eyes it was so empty. It might be a frustrating, but then you realized that it simply fits into the concept. Unfortunately we visited just the lobby and the restaurant, so cannot tell you about everything there, but even the restaurant is good enough. A breathtaking view, unusual interior, feeling like in a spaceship rather than a hotel. Just recall the year 1973, when it was finished and you will find out why it looks like this. The time of conquering space flights made this even now amazing structure truth.

This mountain would be nothing without the tower and the funicular. Nevertheless the ridge is somehow lonely all around and when you’re here, you can see it all in its bare beauty. I guess this place is nice to visit during all day long and in all weather conditions. It is not so common to just turn your head and to see a completely different world. On the north there is the city and distant hills and mountains and on the other side so wide and open almost flat lowlands...interesting. Remember you’re more than 1 000 meters above main sea level, so the weather here can change very fast. I think that you shall visit this somehow magical place, you will not regret it. And when you have the opportunity, have a flight above it as well...only then you can imagine how lonely this mountain is and how futile it might be to understand it ;-)

Accessible either by auto, foot (a steep hill climb) or cable car, this mountaintop attraction is well worth the short trip out of the city. It serves as the emblem of the City of Liberec over which it towers. It is even accessible from the city center by tram! Although more expensive than it ought to be, the cable car is the most enjoyable way to the top. Once there, you will be treated with a panoramic view of the region extending into Germany and Poland as well on a clear day. The tower houses a surprisingly affordable hotel accommodation and a restaurant that serves up wonderful views from its window-side tables in spite of the fact that most of their menu items are priced higher than comparable meals in restaurants in the "low lands". I'd stick with the hot drinks and ice cream menus and wait until I returned to town to find a meal. On days of good weather, the sites and scenes are well worth the effort to get up to the top and in the summer there is opportunity to do some berry picking and day hiking once you are in the area. Wait for a clear day and make a dash for the top.

CZ:Na vrchol se můžete dostat 3mi způsoby, lanovkou, pěšky nebo vyjet skoro nahoru autem a zbytek dojít pěšky. My jsme zvolili lanovkou protože ta je nejlehčí a nejrychlejší. Pokud budete mít pěkné počasí jako my čeká vás nádherný výhled na Liberec a okolní hory. V horskému hotelu Ještěd si jde zajít na jídlo či se občerstvit. Lanovka jede podle sezóny každou půl hodinu/ hodinu .ENG: you can get to the top by 3 ways, by cablelift, by walk or by car get almost to the top and than walk. We choose cablelift because its fastest and easiest way. If you will have nice weather as we have you will get very nice view from the top to the Liberec city and surrounding woods. You can have a lunch at Jested hotel , depending on season cablelift going every 30min / 1 hour.

If you are lucky and have a good weather (which is honestly a bit hard in Liberec), you can see a lot! On one side, there's Poland and its power plant Turow, you can see Czech Jizera mountains, German borders, Krkonoše mountains (even Sněžka), whole Liberec, Máchovo jezero, Bezděz. When the weather is really good, one can see Prague, which is 100 km far away.Ještěd is a TV signal transmitter, a hotel and a restaurant. It was built in 1973, designed by Karel Hubáček who was awarded for designing it. It's a unique building. You can use a cableway to get to the top (1012).
