t.r.r. cobb house

A stunning home, moved back to Athens near where it originally sat. The home has some great artifacts and a friendly staff. They are still in the process of developing the visitor experience here, but it is already a great asset to what Athens has to offer. The Cobb family is very important in GA and Civil War history.

The "big pink house" on Hill St. was moved from Prince Ave to Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta. It sat there for over 10 years and nothing was really done to rehab it. The Watson-Brown Foundation provided the funding to have it moved back to Athens and do a faithful restoration, including appropriate garden areas. It's a beautiful space and really adds to the street and surrounding historic district.

Went to this house because of the history and architecture. Found way more than I was looking for. The home had been moved from Athens and then returned back to Athens after a long and sorry sojourn in Stone Mountain, Atlanta, Ga. The docent gave an excellent snapshot of the family who built the house, the moving of the home, and the renovations still under way. It is a beautiful home, with period antiques, and some original family antiques and furniture. Take about an hour for tour. FREE, unless you give a small donation.

If my husband is correct its actually the T.R.R. Cobb house. Our visit was great. My husband had wanted to go for a long time. Kids thought it was boring but we expected that. Cobb was a great man. A friend in the Cobb faqmily told us how the General mourned for his little girl who died of scarlett fever, and had her buried where he could look out his office window and see her grave. When he died in the Civil War he was buried elsewhwere and the little girl movede to be with him. We also heard that the Generals ghost was supposed to haunt the place , seen by several students when the house was part of the local Catholic school.
