A most lovely, clean, tranquil site with six soaking tubs, all private but one. tubs can accommodate from 1-6 guests with two showers to clean up after? There are charming, quiet picnic areas lovely overnight accommodations. The site is decorated beautifully and well kept. Truly a refreshing escape from stress!
Visited on a Monday afternoon, just after they opened, 2pm. No one around so I placed my fee in the slot with a note, spent a very relaxing hour in the hottest tub, 106°F. Nice campground, with outdoor flushies and showers. Like the proprietor says, not the hilton, but clean, low key, quiet, and plenty of private soaking in the flesh. Restaurants are a 10 min. drive into Safford or shop nd prepare your own at camp.
When I camp, I usually go bare-bones. This was more of a resort-camping experience. My minimal camping fee bought me nearly-unlimited soaking in the free-running hot springs. It also got me kitchen privileges, and a heated community room with wifi, TV, and electricity. Bathrooms and a shower (although the shower experience was disappointing, with no drainage except out the door, and lukewarm water). The atmosphere is relaxed. I enjoyed Clarisse, and had fun browsing in the gift shop. I happened to be camping during a cold snap, so after my first 24° night, I splurged on one of the casitas. None of the cabins/rooms have running water or bathrooms, but being inside does give you a comfortable bed, shelter, and electric heat (plus coffee, tea, wifi and TV).If you're not a hermit, you may enjoy the communal spirit of the common areas and economical camping. I will gladly return to camp in this lovely spot, and bliss out in the hot springs. If you don't want to stay, you can pay a small fee and enjoy a day of soaking and lounging around the grounds.
It is a very charming place to visit, I did and do love the hot tubs. It's not an upscale resort but more down to earth and that's what gives it charm. I would and will visit again.
I absolutely adore Essence! Don't expect anyone to wait on you because it won't happen but do expect to have private clothes free soaks that are reasonably unlimited, a clean bed, great in-camp coffee and even a good choice of in-camp movies. I say in-camp because even though all the rooms are sweetly decorated and nicely furnished, the bathroom is still located in the common room/kitchen area so, it's a bit like camping for those of us that really don't camp! I guess it's like 1/2 camping! ;)What Essence is really good at, is giving a hot springs fan a great soak experience in a very private setting, which is why I come all the way from CA. Bravo!!! I adore you and every visit you become more special!
a wedding? Its a campground for heaven sake, not the Marriott! the Owners are very gracious and tolerant but there are rules, you must have stepped over the line.
We had a wedding here yesterday and initially everything was good. The problems started the next morning with the staff waking the bride and groom at 7:30 in the morning, in a very rude fashion, in a place with a 12:30 check out time. The employees proceeded to dump the parties beverages on the ground, throw away things that didn't belong to them, and ignore anyone that told them as we had the previous day that we would clean up after ourselves. This is the worst next day service I have ever had. Don't stay here, its a trap.
We have spent many comfortable refreshing hours in this beautiful spot. Well maintained with nice size tubs at reasonable prices. Would love to stay in their beAutiful cabins sometime. Highly recommend.
knownalias's review is very suspicious! knownalias's Says "this place was a shambles, with junk piled out front. It really looked like Fred Sanford had opened a hot springs in the middle of his junk yard." I WOULD STRONGLY DISAGREE! knownalias's did not snap a picture. However the good people at Google did. And anyone reading this can go to Google maps and view the street view of the property. I am snooty person and I love this place!
My wife and I visited this place and had a great time. We planned the trip with the intent of having a relaxing day. I had a sore back for several days prior to this visit and after we left, my back felt amazing. Not sure if it was the heat or the mineral water, but I felt amazing! As others have mentioned, this place is not a 5 star resort, so have realistic expectations. As for the reviewer who rated this place with an overall score of 1 and he didn't even enter the property - well that's his loss. Well worth the trip and we'll return!
My friend asked me if I wanted to go to an old-fashioned "hippy hot tub place" when I was visiting her in Arizona. That sounded like fun to me, and I said yes. Essence of Tranquility did not disappoint. I'm sure it's not everybody's cup of tea -- it's very down to earth, simple, a little kitschy. There are dorm accommodations (with DOUBLE size bunk beds, each with its own reading light) that have a fridge, microwave, and t.v. and a kind of thatched roof. Each bed has a screen that can partially cover it to give a small amount of privacy. You have to go outside to go to the bathroom. In a separate structure, there is a common kitchen area where my friends and I cooked a full dinner and breakfast, and a common living room as well. There is at least one private room with a double bed. There are several different hot spring pools, some private and some communal. There's a little gift shop selling tie-dyed t-shirts, dream catchers, essential oils, and artwork by the family that runs the place. Massages are available. In the middle of the grounds is a tiny pond with a fountain that is illuminated with changing colors. You can come for a few hours or stay overnight. I would have been happy to stay for a couple of days. I found Essence of Tranquility to be a very sweet and mellow place. I can't wait to go back.
I am not a snooty person, and I have been around and done a lot of things that might seem dubious. Maybe all that experience was talking to me when my wife and I approached this place. Nestled in a serene cluster of broke-down, ancient mobile homes, we found this dive just amazingly unappealing. I wasn't looking for luxury, but reasonably tidy and tended would have been nice. This place was a shambles, with junk piled out front. It really looked like Fred Sanford had opened a hot springs in the middle of his junk yard. We'd driven 2 hours to get to this place after reading its wonderful reviews. We didn't even stop the car when we got there. We looked at each other and said "no way" before making a turn in the parking area and leaving. It seems like some people really like it, and I am glad for them. But really, this place is a total dump. Wish I'd snapped a pic for you! Do NOT believe the reviews.
this little oasis is just what the doctor ordered, peace and quite, casual and homey. Old style Deep cement tubs to soak away your cares.Camping options are clean and comfortable. The locals make this a regular stop, it's worth a trip.
My husband and I came here and were not disappointed. The people here are very nice and the hot mineral spring tubs were so warm and relaxing. We soaked in the tub and then Mary gave us a massage which was so relaxing. The people here make you feel right at home. There is no rush. They have different rooms with hot tubs and door for privacy. Will return here when we are in the area. Please remember this is not a fancy place, but the prices are so very reasonable that it was well worth our time here.
If you are looking to be waited on or want to have some upscale experience with bathrobes and tray bearing waitpersons, this is NOT the place for you. But, if you are looking for absolutely PURE soaking waters, quiet grounds, peaceful surroundings and some other soul mates, then this is absolutely the place to be. I have been to Essence twice now, once with my friends from Tucson and once solo and both times the experience was stellar. I love that you have complete freedom to soak whenever a pool is open day or night. I can't think of a more lovely experience. The shared kitchen is lovely and clean as is the shared space to just read a book. My favorite is the outdoor eating area and the lovely grounds. I adore this place and will be back again as time allows.
