Arrived in Portland and crossed the river to Washington State. Traveled west to east on the Washington side, crossed over at The Dalles and traveled east to west back to Portland. Allow plenty of time for stops along the road.

If you haven't been through the gorge you haven't been through one of the most beautiful places in America. Even just driving the interstate is a dream come true for people that love varied landscapes. The gorge is a wonder in hood river is the jam is it in downtown Hood River is like visiting in town from the past there are a quaint little place with beautiful buildings and wonderful places to eat. If you're driving down I 84 you should swing into downtown Hood River and catch a bite at one of the local restaurants. There is a fabulous Burrito Bar in town as well as a number of sandwich shops for a quick bite. You'll be glad you stopped enjoy the gorge!

We came here to enjoy the scenery and boy is there a view. The river is much wide than I expected and there are several vantage points along the road. One of my favorite areas in the US.

This Washington hike in the Gorge takes you up through basalt flows up across a couple of ridges, through the woods, and along areas that are sacred to the native people of this area. It's a casual hike--about 1000 foot elevation gain, perhaps 6-7 miles. Excellent views up river and across to the Oregon side. Its a little over an hour's drive from Portland, east of the Hood River bridge. Good for moderate hikers.

The roads on both sides of Washington and Oregon, travelling East or West along the Columbia River Gorge will be amazed by the beauty this area presents. It's Federally protected, so there's probably an hour's drive before you hit civilization.

Mother Nature did a fabulous job in the gorge. Breathtaking scenery. Hike on the many trail. Watch the sun rise, the colors are amazing.

The Columbia River Gorge is one of the MOST beautiful places on Earth. A must see in one's lifetime. The gorge is home to world-class wineries and brewers. It is nirvana for lovers of all things outdoors; such as hiking on waterfalls, windsurfing and kiting, snow skinning, white water rafting, and more. People come to visit and never go home.

Love the highway travel there, amazing rock formations, and even saw a few mountain goats! Always windy, but then, it is the top destination for windsurfing!

This is an exhilarating cruise. I would recommend the dinner cruise. It's a little pricey but definitely worth it. The dinner itself was extravagant and comes with a drink if you want. The cruise itself is outstanding along with the staff. There's a piano player that has beautiful songs and you can request songs as well as dedicate songs. The night cruise is nice, cool and very vibrant with the city lights. It's worth it for any occasion. I would go again. The staff if very friendly and accommodating not to mention very talented.

I have read before that the gorge is one of the top 10 scenic routes in the US and I believe it. Very few places rival this area. Pick up a book on flowers and you will find that there are many climates here and there are flowers that grow no other place on the planet than here. There are hikes, waterfalls, kite surfing, and other outdoor events in the gorge. My favorite town in the gorge is Hood River. One of the best views is heading Westbound about 1-2 miles before Mosier, OR, you will have an expansive view down the gorge. The land on the Washington side is very interesting.I have hiked most routes and visited many of the waterfalls. There are many parks and places to pull off the road and enjoy the view or have a picnic. If you are in the area, it is well worth a short trip down the columbia river gorge.
