santa claus museum

My husband surprised me with a trip to Santa Claus Indiana not knowing what to expect. We found a very friendly, quant little town that knows how to celebrate Christmas. It's only a one day trip. We loved the museum, it told the history of how their Santa Claus got started and all the old news articles dating back to WW1. We even came home with an official Santa Claus one dollar bill.

Thanks Brian! I did want to mention for those looking to write letters to Santa Claus in the historic Santa Claus Post Office, that is located on sight at the Santa Claus Museum & Village, NOT at the actual Santa Claus Post Office in Kringle Place shopping center.

The museum had a lot of wonderful history and the staff was extremely friendly. Loved seeing the history of how Santa Claus, IN got its name.

Myself, my mom, my daughter, and 2 nieces went today on our way out of town. The post office was great, the kids loved writing to Santa and are all looking forward to getting letters back from him! I liked the church, because I love history any way it is presented to me. We all enjoyed the museum, the kids liked the Santa with child exhibit best. It was pretty awesome to see the aerial view of Santa Claus back when the theme park was still called Santa Claus Land and how small it was. We did make a donation for going in, but it isn't required. Definitely not huge, but a fun thing to see if you're in the area.

Get directions to new location. It is very small but cute. We liked reading how the letters to Santa have changed over the years. Doesn't take long to go through.

This is a small museum which tells about the history of the town. They had interesting video. My daughter mailed a letter to Santa. She should get a response at Christmas Time!

My kids loved this place even the second time we visited! Very small but the people in this town are wonderful! Visit the original post office and let the kids write a letter to Santa. They do get a reply letter near Christmas :) we love ours and try to go every year. It's all free but if possible donate them a little to mail the letters and keep the place up. It's so worth it! Great place to visit :)

Very wonderful museum................. I was a teacher and my students wrote to Santa Claus, In.Fun to get to the museum myself. It is a little hard to find and not well marked...keep looking.We arrived late in day....I could have spent an afternoon there....reading the letters children wrote all the way up from l930................... and look at the huge Santa statue there...Amazing!!

Children will love touring the Santa Claus Museum! Read children’s letters, to Santa, dating back to the 1930's. So many things to see, including a historic,1935 Santa Claus Statue,1880 Santa Claus Church,and stop by the original Santa Claus Post Office, where children can sit at antique school desks and pen their letters to Santa and mail them. They do receive a reply letter during the Christmas season. Admission is free and open to the public, however, they do rely on your generous donations. All donations and gift shop proceeds not only help to make sure this history remains available...it also help Santa’s Elves purchase the postage necessary to mail thousands of letters from Santa each year.

My husband and I drove 30 miles out of our way to see the museum while on vacation and the place was closed for the season . We should have called first to make sure it was open.

I really liked reading about how the town of Santa Claus came to be! I loved reading the old letters to Santa--some dating clear back to the 30's. The only thing I would have liked to see would be old Santa costumes, or Santa memorabilia.

It is so nice lot's of nice things in there. Toys,clothes,candy,hat's and post cards. They also have all sorts of information on santa claus In.

I feel like the Grinch giving this a bad mark, but it is an odd little museum. Not a lot to see and much of it seemed to be more focused on a) the guy who created Holiday World, and b) how the town got it's name. Since it is called the 'Santa Claus' museum, I was expecting Santa Claus the guy, but it is actually Santa Claus the town, they are promoting. The photo op with the Santa Claus statue is fine. The post office takes all of two minutes to see. Didn't go in the church so never figured out why it was there. Got tired right away of reading about how the town got it's name and what they did to promote the town. From what I see that is all they do -- promote the town. I have no problem with self promotion, but need to back it up with some substance. Wife and I felt they could have done a lot more Christmasy stuff. Instead, all we saw were Christmasy names everywhere, with little if anything to do with Christmas. This museum was one more example. Didn't put me in a holiday mood at all. Just felt like it was all overhype and under perform.

spent almost 2 hrs. there son had to look at everything. very nice. there was so much to look at. every time there is something new.
