Actually Suburban Square in Ardmore has some historic appeal. It is a "mall" in name only...but is in fact an outdoor shopping mecca with some old buildings (And new ones). Unlike the huge enclosed malls like King of Prussia, Oxford, Neshaminy, Mall of America etc., this is a place that breathes in the fresh air and is more like a neighborhood than a cloister. Suburban Square is one of those early "malls". Great kitchenware stores, ok restaurants and all manner of clothing places. A department store there is worth a visit and there are, as one reviewer put it, numerous upscale chains. I disagree with the reviewer who said it "makes you feel like you are in a downtown shopping district but it is just a mall". In fact, I think it is a downtown shopping district that is more than just a mall. Anyway, I agree its worth a visit,

This is a great place to find anything you are looking for. Whether you're looking for a fresh smoothie or salad, a gift, a new pair of shoes, or coffee- you are sure to find it!

An outdoor shopping mall with some history but largely a modern, upscale chain store style construction. There are two main historic buildings, one I believe an office building that at the time it was built was the tallest building in the area (outside of downtown Philadelphia, of course). Macy’s also occupies an historic department store location, formerly a Strawbridge and Clothier. I’ve heard many complaints regarding the fact it is not as large, etc as a new building, but in my mind, the charm of the old building is the only reason I would go to Macy’s anyway. They’ve redone the square area around these main buildings and store; there are tables, a fountain, etc, which makes it a nice place to rest. Ultimately, though, the whole effect seems to strive to make you feel you are in the heart of town’s shopping district, when in fact it is really just a mall. Come to think of it, downtown Ardmore is right on the other the other side of the train tracks, a block away...may I suggest checking out an actual town shopping district?
