The lighthouse sits in the middle of the Tawas Bay State Park, not only can you tour this beautiful lighthouse that was erected in 1876, you can also stroll to the beach which is only a few feet away! The lighthouse fee is about $2.00,however you must pay the state park fee as well, an escorted tour will take you to the top of the tower, with a bird's eye view of Tawas Bay! The lighthouse is furnished in antique furnishings from the time period. Lots of information is also located in and around the lighthouse. The breathtaking sandy beach is true Michigan at it's best. Large beach grass leads you to the clean pristine sand near the water. Food and beverages are sold on the property, there are changing rooms as well as restrooms, within feet of the beach.Halloween time turns the lighthouse into a magical spooky time, with costumed characters strolling the premises.A great time to be had by any age group!

My family and I stumbled upon this little town quite unintentionally. We visited and fell in love with "The Tawases". For being such small, quaint cities, there never seems to be an end to available activities. Whether you're in the mood to lounge on the beach, swim, kayak, shop, or cycle-you won't find opportunies lacking. The people are really friendly and there are many city-wide planned activities year round to keep you socially stimulated. I've always loved the beach and the beach atmosphere, but have little love for the greasy, salty water full of who-knows-what that can bite, sting, or otherwise cause pain. THIS is the solution: Lake Huron- all the beauty with none of the pain! I've been coming every year since 2010 and loved it so much that-this past August-I bought land here. Tawas: pure water...'Pure Michigan'.

very clean inside, each room has the old furniture and items of the time the light house was in use, you can go up to the top if you wish.

We recently went here on a Saturday afternoon and we really enjoyed ourselves you can go in the light house also go all the way to the top and look out . We checked out the little gift shop and took some pictures :) was a nice stop . We did see a playground area in the park where if you were traveling would be nice for the kids to stretch legs too ! Not that far off from US 23

While visiting Tawas City we could see a little of the lighthouse from the drive along US 23. We decided to take a ride out to see the lighthouse and walk along the beach. Tawas Beach Rd is a nice little ride on a curvy paved road where you can see a few nice large homes that are on East Tawas Bay. You have to enter through Tawas Point State Park (you need a state park sticker to enter, cost is $11 which is for the year and gets you into all MI state parks) and the lighthouse is at the end of the road. There is a gift shop and the host there is friendly and informative. There are tours of the lighthouse and beaches around it within a little walk. There is a small restaurant with a patio and a metal dock/walkway to beach which i believe could be used by someone in a wheel chair, so it might be handicap accessible. Roads are paved, parking lot is paved with cement walkway to restaurant. Definitely worth a trip to lighthouse and beach. There is also camping at the park. There is also a lightkeepers program that you can check out on their website.

We ventured to the lighthouse with my son Justin, daughter-in-law Akiko, grandson Jack, and my lovely wife Susan. The entire state park area there was a lot of fun. The staff at the lighthouse was very informative and up on their history. Jack really enjoyed the trek as did all the adults. The lighthouse is restored and in fantastic condition. The views of Tawas Bay are beautiful. Nice way to spend part of the afternoon.

Great place to stop. The guide was very helpful and extremely informative. Keep in mind the Lighthouse does not open until noon. And they have a gift shop.

Gorgeous lighthouse with awesome views of the lake and the bay. This lighthouse sits out on the point so you have water on 3 sides. From just about any spot on the beaches you can see this beautiful lighthouse. Where it is positioned allows for awesome photo ops. Also has a cute little gift shop. You can tour the lighthouse as well. Lots of different special events take place here as well. Birding festival, historic days, even special activities for Halloween. If your visiting Tawas you have to make a stop at the lighthouse!

We spent a week volunteering as lighthouse keepers. It was an awesome experience for us. We were there over the weekend when the Celebration Days were held. There were lots of people interested in visiting the lighthouse--on Saturday we gave tours to over 268 people of all ages and abilities. It was amazing to me that over a hundred years ago when the lighthouse was built, it was surrounded by water on three sides and swamp on one side. Now, thanks to Mother Nature, the actual point is about a mile farther than the lighthouse. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is interested in lighthouses.

There's also a nice beach, and a pet beach here. Hiking trails with lots of birds, great at sunrise and sunset. Take the tour if you can.

Use your state park sticker to get into the Tawas Point State Park picnic area where you can enjoy the crystal blue waters of Lake Huron. Enjoy birds of all varieties that stop in the marsh to rest or return to the area. Follow the path to the historic Tawas Point Lighthouse and see spectacular views of Lake Huron and Tawas Bay. Bring your camera, because you'll want to take pictures worthy of wall mounting. It's a "don't miss" stop when you are in the Tawas area!
