Fun afternoon w 2 preschoolers! They enjoyed the scavenger hunt, art table, trash viewing and playing with the sorter. We spent 2 1/2 hours, various activities. You also get to see trash recyclables brought in and sorted off the trucks! Art area we spent awhile making collages from trash boxes. Would visit again! Staff is very friendly and helpful!

You might not expect it, but this place is equally intriguing for young children as the science center. We had a blast watching the trucks come in and dump their goods to be sorted. Kids were fascinated by the trash sculpture/cave and enjoyed a story about the life of a reused chair. We will be back!

Very informative and interesting for ALL ages. Things for the kids to do. Never look at your trash the same way again. Worth a visit.

I went with my nephews after seeing it featured on a local TV show. The boys were 2 and 4 and really enjoyed the movie, the conveyor belt that they could operate and the arts and craft area. When you go to the second floor you can look out and see the recycling operation. There were lots of trucks dumping and equipment moving and sorting trash. It was about an hour + self guided tour. Not an over crowded museum so there was no waiting to do or see things.

A very well done, unique museum with an extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. You can see the entire museum in an hour or less. Don't let the fact that it's about trash dissuade you; everyone in the US throws things away and many recycle. That fact alone drives some fascinating statistics.

Down a side road in the midst of an industrial park is the last place you'd expect to find a gem, but it's in there, under all that trash. The Trash Museum is a great place for kids and grown-kids alike to get a reality check on where all the stuff we buy and use really ends up. The main focus is learning the importance of recycling and then showing you how it's actually done right before your eyes. Over-sized displays and interactive activities are designed to bring learning to the kid in all of us, or with all of us. The staff was super friendly and truly wanted to share their knowledge with the visitors. The minimal entry fee is well worth it. You'll be done in less than an hour, unless you get caught up in the scavenger hunt, which can be too fun to quit.

A group of Friendship Force members from Toronto visited this Trash Museum with the Hartford group. What an unexpected morning of interesting information. This is a great museum allowing us to see a working trash recycling plant. There are cameras showing the working conveyor belts and viewing windows allowing us to see the workers on the job. Well done. I am wondering if we have anything like that around here? A must see if you are interested in the environment.

My husband and I live in Manhattan and wanted to spend the day together during Spring Break at a place that would not be full and crowded. We drove the hour and 45 minutes to the CRRA and found a gem well worth the drive. A real recycling plant, The Trash Museum has exhibits that explain what happens to trash, how to make better choices about purchasing items as well as how to dispose of things responsibly. Although we don't have a garden I was quite intrigued by the composting exhibit. The exhibits were informative but not preachy. Even the gift shop had great recycled items! On the top floor there is a viewing area that allows visitors to watch what happens to the trash from the time it arrives at the plant to the time it is sent in bales to other places so that they can reuse the plastics, metals, etc. While there are explanations posted describing each step of the process it is definitely easier to understand when explained by a staff member. That is the only suggestion we have: provide some brief guided tours. When Pamela, a really sweet employee, volunteered to come upstairs and clarify certain things, it made a huge difference. At the same time, with an admission price of only $4, we understand that extra staff are not readily available.Although there are other museums dedicated to recycling this is the only one we know of within driving distance that allows people to come even if they're not a group or school. There were fun activities geared to young kids but we're glad we left our 15 year old at home.

I just don't know - my kids love visiting the garbage museum! Ages 7 and 8 at the time. it is an interesting relatively small place, that you can visit for an hour or two. There is a nice video presentation, but their favorite part is the viewing window - where they thrill in looking for rats to run out the garbage that is dumped by trucks to be sorted for recycling. I think they saw a mouse once - that's about it.There is a huge garbage pile the kids like to look at - like an iSpy, an art space, and a sparkly driveway. The gift shop is tiny - but the kids always manage to find something anyhow. I guess it is definitely worth going if you want to please the children - in fact I guess we are due back for a visit!

This is a great little museum. Very well planned and lots of hands-on things to do for kids and adults. If you are interested in recycling and ecology, it is a must-see.

It is interesting seeing what happens when things get recycled. It is informative. It is also interactive. X rating 7.4

Great educational museum. Teaches about our refuse stream and how it is handled. Good for classroom and tours. Hands and eyes on activities.

Not worth the trip, lacks imagination. It could be so much more. I have business there regularly & they make no change.

Just throw it away? Get a good look at "away." Every grade school child should get to see this. It promotes careful shopping, conservation, recycling, etc.

These people put your trash to good use and it is great! I love the creativity that comes along with the trash collectors. I wouldn't just go there though. I went there with some friends. It is great for kids though.
